Thinkpad T-22 Power On

Hello Folks,

I have a trusty Thinkpad T-22.
I was working fine until recently when I noticed thet it was not charging the battery.
It has since stopped powering on.

Everytime I push the power button, The battery and HD lights come on for a split second and nothing else happens. No hard drive spin and no video.

Does anyone have any Ideas about resovling such an issue?
Thanks a bunch.

Re: Thinkpad T-22 Power On

Hi joemensah, welcome to the forum,

have you tried starting your T22 without the battery? You can also find a wealth of information about this type of experience on TPF in the T2x & T3x board.

Re: Thinkpad T-22 Power On

This sounds like the Blink of Death (BoD) problem that tends to occur in the T20-T22 Thinkpads.

However, I would still try to remove every piece of hardware that you can, with the exception of 1 stick of ram, and see if it will boot.  If it does boot, then try to add one piece of hardware at a time, until it no longer boots.  Start with the Mini-PCI card and/or the network card.

Re: Thinkpad T-22 Power On

Greetings from Australia from a new member. I have a T21 type 2647-8AA with classic BOD. After a lot of Internet searching, I gather some people have had some success with some solutions. The problem often seems to be heat/age related component deterioration on the motherboard. Not easily fixed, as it can affect various components (notably the ADP3421 chip it seems). The usual suggestion is to install a working replacement motherboard (which might not be cheap, simple or cost effective). I've pretty much given up hope of getting a cost effective fix, seeing a new basic notebook PC can be bought for under AUD500 in Australia (with OS and warranty).

However I would be interested to know if anyone more technical than me can say whether there is an accepted solution to Thinkpad BOD in technical circles.

Re: Thinkpad T-22 Power On

As pointed out above, try checking out the discussion in the Thinkpad forum.  There have been many different possible ways to temporarily fix it, but even replacing the system board appears to be putting off the inevitable.
