Thnikpad t-40 Freezing up

2008-08-04, 14:53 PM

When i start up my thinkpad t-40 (type 2373) it will just freeze up after about 2 or 3 minutes. I have to restart the computer and it does it again after 2-3 minutes. Windows does load up.

Could someone please help and let me know if there is a solution to getting this fixed??

Thank you

Brian

Welcome to the forum!

Try running PC-Doctor on every component of your system, especially on video adapter. You can download it and burn a disk from here:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-56222

Good luck and let us know.

Cheers,

George

i have followed the exact directions and when i get to the these steps:

4. While either of the following messages is displayed at the lower-
left area of the screen, press the F12 key.

To interrupt normal startup, press the blue Access IBM button
       or the enter key.
Press F12 to choose temporary boot device
     - or -
Press F1  for IBM BIOS Setup Utility
Press F11 to invoke the IBM Product Recovery program
Press F12 to choose temporary boot device

The Boot Menu will be displayed.
If a password prompt appears, type the correct password.
  5. Insert the PC-Doctor DOS CD into the internal CD-RW, CD-RW/DVD
     Combo or DVD Multi drive.
  6. Press cursor keys to select either of the following devices, and
     press Enter.
       ATAPI CDx (x: 0, 1, ...)
     - or -
       CD-ROM Drive

I do all these and when I get to step 6 above.....select ATAPI CDx and push enter. ....my computer starting loading windows and goes into regualr operating mode. It does not seem to run the PC doctor unless it has run itself in the background and I did not know it???????? Does it???

Just turn the machine on, and press F12 while booting. In the "temporary boot device" menu choose CD-ROM. Insert the media and press enter.

Let's see if this works...

And no, PC-Doctor doesn't run in the background...

Cheers,

George
