Touchpad click functions unresponsive!

2008-10-14, 6:02 AM

Got one for the gurus!

My daughter's T30 touchpad will send the pointer all over the interface.

However if she tries to click either the touchpad or any button to execute

the GUI radio button (Windows XP) .. NOTHING HAPPENS!

Hitting the ENTER button only works infrequently.

What is more puzzling is the fact that even upon efforts to reinstall the

operation system, we notice the same lack of functionality!

Only on some interface boxes will the keyboard function.

Tried updating the bios.    Already have the latest so no go.

Tried using a USB mouse.    Works with hesitance OK.

What say ye IBM gurus?    Got a clue?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Let me know if you find an answer. I just posted about the same thing yesterday, here >> http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=T_Series_Thinkpads&thread.id=19545

Hello,

please check your machine with PC Doctor or boot it with a Linux Live CD like Knoppix.

If PC Doctor tells a failure or in Linux the touchpad keyboard is similar unresponsible, then try to

reseat your keyboard.

See this link for videos on howto open your machine. It´s similary to othter T models.

Regards

Andreas

Thanks, Ago. I just so happen to have a Linux Knoppix CD I downloaded a while back for an issue on another computer. And yes, all works perfect running Linux, so it's not hardware. I said this in another thread, but I have a feeling SP3 or some other Windows XP update might have something to do with it. Not sure yet.

Oh Boy!   Don't think the problem is Windows XP SP3.

I just went through the rigors of re-installing the OS.

The mouse click function gave me h-e-double toothpicks

all through the install.    As I said before, using a Logitech

trackball mouse, after a bit of initial hesitancy it works like

native hardware.

Have reseated the keyboard.    Don't have a clue.

Thanks for any progress fixing this!

Any luck yet? I also wiped my HD and reinstalled XP. No luck. What in the hell is wrong. As I said, it works fine using Linux knoppix. Strange.
