Ok, so both my flatmate and I have T42 series laptops. They were bought at different times in different countries from different people. What's the same is that both of them will occasionally die when something plugged into the USB port is bumped. This doesn't normally happen when plugging something in, and it happens suddenly, the screen instantly goes black and all the lights go off. There's no error message or anything, even when the computer is restarted. To get going again you have to take the battery out and put it back in. It's strange that both of us have this problem, yet i can't find anything on the forums.. any ideas? Is it worth looking inside? Are the USB ports soldered to the motherboard, or is there a cable connector?
Cheers,
Kerry

Hello,
please try a Knoppix or Ubuntu Linux Live CD, download it-burn to disc- boot with it and use your usb devices.
If the computer shuts down, than a hardware failure will be possible.

YES! Please help! My R51 also shuts down if I plug something into the USB port. I would also take the battery out and reinsert it then boot up again. But NOW, it won't even boot up. There is a green light showing, and when I push the power button the other lights flash and then they all go out. DEAD!
Could someone please point me in the right direction?
Thank You!
Becca
