WiFi adapter wont work; Driver not working?

2010-08-17, 19:28 PM

Hi!

I reinstalled OS (Windows XP) and...for some reason the WiFi driver installs but WiFi wont work.
I cannot see the "Wireless Connections" under "My Network Places", and...WiFi-radio slider wont turn it on.

I checked the "Hardware" under MyComputer and...I have yellow exclamation under "Other Devices" - Network Controller...which might be the "Wifi card" (I dunno).

The Ethernet card works allright.

It's first time I'm having a problem with it. I reinstalled OS several time within this past 5 years, and driver always worked and I had WiFi after installing driver.  Now...it doesnt.

(LAN works perfect)
I downloaded latest driver but...neh, wont work either.

Can anyone give a hand??
If you need further info...let me know...

It's a ThinkPad Z60m.

Thanks in advance, Hope we can solve this...

Gazza, welcome to the forum,

please post the Type and Model Number of your Z60m this will help members to help you. If it ends in CTO please provide some details about the ThinkPad. Please do NOT post your s/n.

Just out of interest, is a WLAN card showing up in Network Devices in device manager?

Thanks

Andy

Re: WiFi adapter wont work; Driver not working?

Type and Model:  2531-CTO  +  2531-W2F

It's a Thinkpad Z60m , Intel Pentium 1.73Mhz, 1 Gb RAM, 60 Gb HDD

Windows XP Professional 2002  SP3  (I dont wanna upgrade to Vista or 7)

Network devices:  Network Adaptor 1934  +  Broadcom Nextreme Gigabit Internet
(Internet using Ethernet cable is working perfect)

The other only thing relating to "network" is a "yellow exclamation" under "Other Devices", which is a "Network  Controller", and it's says installed in PCI slot 1.
Might be that...but I dunno.

I really never had a problem after reinstalling. I downloaded the latest drivers at each category (video, audio, Ethernet, UltraNav, Hotkey, WiFi...) and...never had a problem after reinstalling OS.
However...now the WiFi card wont work or even be recognized, I guess...

Hope someone might give me a hand...

If U need further info, please let me know.. I'll keep a daily eye on this post..
Thanks in advance,

GAZZA

You should be able to find the correct driver here. Please ensure you follow the Manual Installation instructions on the download site, scroll down a bit, as it is a two stage process.

Re: WiFi adapter wont work; Driver not working?

Yeah...I followed both steps:  download and Extract  +  Install

Is that what you meant?

I have a doubt: even if the driver is not yet installed...the WiFi Adapter should be shown under "network adapters" in Hardware Devices, right?
Because...well...it's not listed. I only have the Ethernet device and de 1934 Network adapter device.

Also tried to install the "Advanced Connection" for Thinkpad and...neh...no improve.

Problem seems to be the WiFi hardware device wont be recognized by Windows XP.

(I already reinstalled Windows from zero again, case that was the problem...but..nope)
Never happend on the previous "100 times" I reinstalled Windows during this 5years...

Ok..I keep listening to your advices and solutions...

Thanks for trying to help...

Have you tried running ThinkVantage System Update?
