XP on T61 standby failed - Intel wireless 4965AGN

2008-09-10, 0:07 AM

T61

Windows XP SP2 fresh install. No updates installed yet.

Intel wireless 4965AGN card ... verified by opening up the machine

Intel wireless LAN driver version 12.00.4000 downloaded from

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-67853#wireless

Followed instructions for installing XP on a T61 from

http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=188992

When I  do a suspend (Fn+F4 or Start -> Shutdown -> Standby) it goes to preparing to shutdown screen for 5 minutes then returns to Windows with this error

System Standby Failed

The device driver Intel(R) Wireless WiFi link 4965 AGN is preventing the machine from entering standby. Please close all applications and try again. If problem persists, you may need to update this driver.

any help will be appreciated.

TIA

Hello Norky,

i would suggest first to update your os.

Do you use any other Thinkvantage program like hotkey manager or powermanager?

It seems that your installation has failed in some points.

Regards

Andreas

thanks for the reply guys...

Actually this was a fresh re-install of XP. I went to lenovo's site and downloaded the drivers available there.

This could be a hardware issue. There are times that the wireless works properly. There are also times where it is disabled by default, and when enabling it, will hang the system.

Prior to wiping clean the machine, it was having the same symptoms even with latest updates (SP3 with hotfixes)

Our supplier will drop by today to have a look at it. Good to have a 3 year on site warranty.

norky-

Did you get any relief on this issue?  I have the same problem with the 4965AGN driver stopping standby in the exact same manner.  In my case an x61 tablet is involved but the rest is just what you had.

I hate to bump up an old thread but there's not much out there on this one.

Cheers!
