can t60/x1400 + advanced mini dock use 2560x1440 res.?

Hi,

I recently purchased an Advanced Mini Dock to my T60 (2007-7KG) having the Mobility Radeon X1400 GPU in it.

I would like to know if anyone successfully used this configuration to drive a monitor with 2560x1440 resolution (via the DVI-D port on the docking station, of course).

The docking station was reported to be able to support it with a T61p.

Question is, would the T60 be able to support it?

When I check the available resolutions in display settings, only modes up to 2048x1536 are displayed in the list, but I do not have a DVI-D cable or a monitor capable of supporting that resolution connected to the docking station.

Has anyone successfully used this resolution with a T60? Would anyone be able to try it?

Depending on this I would either buy a monitor able to support that resolution or one which is only 1920x1200.

Thanks and best regards,

Robert Varga

Hello,

Since the T60 is an older unit, I am unsure of whether it will work with such a high resolution display.  The ATI X1400 specs don't list a maximum resolution, so this may be something you have to test yourself.

Re: can t60/x1400 + advanced mini dock use 2560x1440 res.?

Since all my T60 with the X1400 is at my friends house undergoing refurbishing, he tested the machine on the old 30 inch Dell LCD that he has.

He reported that some of the T60 did work with the WQXGA, but a few refused to work and only displayed 1280 x 800 instead (which means only one of the DVI channel is active in the Dual Link DVI-D ports. The bios on the systems are all the same version, and these machines had the same OS and same model no.

I am not sure whether the problem is firmware, GPU problem, or that the X1400 don't officially support this resolution.

P.S. These machines were from a mining companies that decommissioned their old ThinkPads, so some of them are pretty beaten up and it could be the result of physical abuse that caused the discrepancy. However, i am not entirely confident that you should get the WQXGA just to try this, unless you can return the LCD or that you are wiling to get a new laptop that supports the resolution.
