The Ricoh reader is very picky with the type of SDHC cards you use, apparently only cards from reputable brands i.e. Kingston are shown to work reliably in this card reader system for anything above 2 gig.

If all else fails, you can always get a small external reader that can double as a usb thumb drive.  I just purchased one from www.dealextreme.com for $3 shipped!!

Re: how to enable reading 4GB Ridata SDHC card on T61 7663-BC2 with Ricoh R5C476 controller

I also have a T61 with Windows XP.  I am trying to use an AData SDHC 4GB card and am unable to read or format it.  I attempted to install the appropriate Microsoft hotfix for this problem (high capacity SD cards), but still am unable to read.

My T61 used to have Vista and I could read this card.  I tried reading on my friend's T61 with Vista and he was able to read and format.  I tried 2 other T61s that are on Windows XP, none can read a card greater than 2GB.  A 2GB card works just fine.

I tried contacting Lenovo, but they consider this a software (Microsoft) issue and are not able to address it without me paying for additional support, even though I have warranty support coverage.

So it appears anyone running WinXP on their T61 is likely out of luck with SDHC cards and the Ricoh card reader.

This is why I prefer Macs....

Hi all,

a simple Google search reveals that XP needs an Hotfix to enable SD HC use.

Re: how to enable reading 4GB Ridata SDHC card on T61 7663-BC2 with Ricoh R5C476 controller

I was able to solve on a W500 with this solution for a T61:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-70881

The solution does not involve any drivers that were not already on the computer, so it doesn't appear to be version specific.
