need to format my system

Hi,

I'm trying to format my computer, but I keep getting a message saying that it was not able to do it. How do I delete everything I've saved?

Re: need to format my system

First a few questions...

What OS are you running currently?

What model are you using?

How are you trying to format it?

Best thing to do is just put in a bootable OS install CD and follow the prompts...

More info will help us help you though.

Re: need to format my system

do you want to delete everything on the laptop?

If so, then you could use something like Safe Data disposal from lenovo, which completely wipes everything.

Re: need to format my system

I would suggest using the ThinkVantage Rescue and Recovery and restore to factory configuration, selecting the option to restore to factory state - this should completely overwrite the C: drive.  I would also then recommend you run TVSU to install all the updates.

If you want to be absolutely sure, you could download and run our secure data disposal application.

You will need a floppy drive to use this.  You will also then need a set of recovery disks to reload from, because this will most likely wipe the recovery partition as well (I've not tried it personally, but expect it overwrites every bit on the drive several times).

Best regards,

Mark
