z60m has no sound

My sound is no longer working on my laptop....  when i go into control panel, sound speech and audio, it claims i have no audio device....

Also, check device manager and there are no yellow exclamation marks.

Tried installing the Soundmax driver package from Lenovo and it states:

Installation failed. The audio driver files do not support your computer hardware.

Please help?!?!

Re: z60m has no sound

hey g8r1fl,

curious to know, was this the driver you use : http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS013777 ? As i could not find any Soundmax drivers under the Z60M download page.

I would suggest uninstalling the current driver that you have and reinstall it.

Re: z60m has no sound

Welcome to the forum, shonjator!

Try booting a "live" Linux CD. Are you getting sound there?

Cheers,

George

Re: z60m has no sound

Hello,
sorry for waitnig for me to reply.
Here is the thing, i switched from windows to linux completly now. ( using linux mint 15 )
I still can't hear the sound.
But before one mounth (while i was still on windows 7) sound came back and i didn't do anything. after i turn off computer and turn it on again sound was gone again.
It may be the sound card (which is i assume integrated), because i tried with headphones (which work on my desktop computer) and no sound from them also.
Maybe some additional software is requaried for linux ( I'm new user so i dont know ).
Thanks.

Re: z60m has no sound

If you're missing sound in both Windows and Linux, chances are that the audio chip has gone south.

You can always buy a PCMCIA sound card and get your audio features back.

Good luck.

Cheers,

George
