1. In order to use WWAN (Mobile Broadband) you need a WWAN card.
(The tablet had the slot for the WWAN card with all the cables but NO ACTUAL CARD)
2. The WWAN card can authenticate with the carrier of your choice in one of two ways:
- By using (registering) the MAC address or MEID of the WWAN card.
*this method is for CDMA carriers like Sprint (carriers that do not use sim cards)
- By using SIM cards like AT&T or T-Mobile. (GSM Carriers)
So the presence of a SIM card slot doesnt guarantee that theres an actual WWAN card installed in your laptop or tablet.
(It just means that the laptop is *WWAN READY*)
Think of this as having a credit card swiping machine that has no phone line attached to it, you can swipe cards all day long but no transactions can actually be completed.
Lenovo mentioned on the ordering page of the TPT that it is WWAN READY but no models would have actual WWAN card in them until late October of this month.

I have to assume that the drivers are already included in the 3.1 build.
My assumption is based on this article: Ericsson mobile broadband module in Lenovo ThinkPad tablet

I just did the upgrade using a Lenovo branded Ericsson F5521gw WWAN adapter. It works! It will work on AT&T in the U.S.
NOTE: During a two hour phone support call, AT&T was able to enable a laptop data plan, but not a tablet data plan because the IMEI associated with the WWAN adapter shows a Lenovo ThinkPad. This is an issue because there is a big cost difference between the laptop and tablet plans. The next day I stopped by an AT&T store, problem solved in ten minutes. I now have the post-paid 2GB @ $25 month plan on my ThinkPad Tablet.

Congratulations underclocker!
What model TPT do you have and where did you get the WWAN card?
Thanks
