Re: 3G upgradeable?

Emerson,

Your Sierra 3G Gobi 3000 WWAN card is a standard issue & not a Lenovo certified part with Lenovo FRU number right?

I asked because no one seems to be able to advise me if a generic 3G WWAN card identical in model/series with the Ericsson F5521GW is able to work with the TPT instead of a Lenovo certified part with Lenovo FRU number.

For those that have done this upgrade, can you tell me if SMS works as well as the data connection?

Thanks

Re: 3G upgradeable?

Hi all,

I've had a read through this threat and many thanks to those who have posted pictures and tutorials. I cracked open my thinkpad 16GB wifi (1838 I believe) last night to put in my wwan card and was very dissappointed to discover that I had no red and blue antennas.

I had a quick look for wwan antennas on ebay and it seems like there are lots in different shapes and sizes. Do you think it's possible I could get one that would fit and work with the TPT? Does it share a wwan antenna with any of the other laptops/tablets?

Many thanks!

Hello all,

I opened my thinktablet and noticed there are no wires to connect them into the card, does this mean i don't have an antenna in my device?

if so why not compared to others who has antennas?

thanks

I ordered my TPT 36 wifi on wednesday, have seen the gobi 3G video mentioned earlier. I asked the rep if there were any differences in the units when ordered without 3G and if 3G could be added and he could not/would not confirm. Has anyone found that the physical unit is different?

mine came with the wires... it is on a 64g model though, from what I have seen in forums, it appears that all 32 and 64 have antenna wires while only some 16 have wires
