Re: Camera Sensor OV8858 and OV2740 driver problem - Thinkpad X1 tablet 2nd gen

I made a service request to Lenovo regarding this camera issue, and got this reply:

"I'm sorry to let you down now, but we're a hardware support. We do not unfortunately have inside info on when specific drivers release. We have as much advance notice about that as you do, so the case is out of scope for us. Since this seems to be a driver issue as you claim, all I can advise you to do is wait."

So, does anyone know whom to turn to with driver requests?

I've sent mine to a service center in Poland. After a week right now they have told me it must be a hardware problem and it is stuck there waiting for Lenovo decision if to repair it, replace or return money. Smiley Sad I really liked this tab... such a shame for Lenovo.

I also filed a ticket through Service Request and just had my X1 tablet 1st Gen sent to Lenovo repair center in UK yeterday. Let's see if they will make any progress on this. Fingers crossed for now.

Still having issues with this. My laptop is Gen 1 though. I'm guessing there haven't been any updates yet? Smiley Sad

Re: Camera Sensor OV8858 and OV2740 driver problem - Thinkpad X1 tablet 2nd gen

Eventually, I have fixed my laptop.

My symptoms were: Both cameras were in "power failure" state. (I believe it will work even if cameras do not appear at all)

Before doing anything, try software fixes: update drivers, and try to do the following steps:

1) Disable cameras, reboot, enable again. If it will not help.

In my case, all of these things did not help. I guessed it can be driver error from the beginning and after that, we cannot drop this error from the cameras using power off cycle (as it's a laptop with the battery and the battery inside). So my idea was - power reset for the notebook. During this fix I have found the different problem - camera cable was wrongly connected (with the angle) so it might be a different issue - bad connected cable and after some shake, it can disconnect.

So what I did:

1) Using the following manual I have opened backplate:

https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/au/en/solutions/pd103910

( or colour one here https://www.laptopmain.com/lenovo-thinkpad-x1-tablet-disassembly/ )

2.a) I have disconnected the battery for ~ 1 min

2.b) I have reattached the cable

I have attached a photo where the battery and possible wrong connected cable.

3) Assemble all back

After assembling, everything is OK. Both cameras working.

Be careful with your hands and hardware.

Have a good day and good luck.

Thanks for your post @quiver.  After struggling with this for many months, your process resolved my issue.  All along I had been thinking it was drivers but reseating that cable did the trick.  Thanks again .....

Re: Camera Sensor OV8858 and OV2740 driver problem - Thinkpad X1 tablet 2nd gen

You are lucky my friend.

I have had no such luck...perhaps because mine machine type is a 20GH from Gen 1.

Finally called Lenovo support and got someone who tried to guide me to update the drivers.. that didn't work. So Lenovo is sending me a box for me to ship it back to them...

fingers crossed. Will keep all of you posted.
