To answer the OP's question, Yes you can plug your phone into the TPT and see its content.

I connected the phone by its USB cord. Turn the phones USB storage option on. Go to the TPT's settings>storage> click the mount USB storage. Then you can use any file explorer/manager to view your phones SD card.

Cheers!

edit: confirmed working with File Manager HD, phone will be labeled under Ext-Storage.

WOW, I need to stop speed reading.

As for second question, it should be on another thread.

Thanks ameridian! Way to go Pete for answering a already answered thread. :) I see that all of my posts were pointless now.

Betreff: Connecting cell phone to tablet via USB

2012-07-31, 14:58 PM
Hey,

yes of course I meant the full size USB port. Manually mounting the mobile using the preferences worked. Which is a good thing, because wirelessly transferring files is nice, but USB simply is so much quicker.
However, I'm still wondering why my USB drives are mounted automatically, while I manually have to mount the Nexus. Which is also the reason why I didn't get this right on my own in the first place. If this is not possible for some technical reason, at least having a widget would be nice. Also, thanks for your help :-)

I believe the Tablet see's/reads the device differently. As it sees it as a ext-drive and not a USB drive.

Maybe someone knows more detail on this?

Even my Panasonic P&S camera is mounted automatically. It would be interesting to know why some devices are and some are not.

Just a thought, Cameras and USB drives auto load, Android Phones ask you to transfer or charge. Someone tried setting default as transfer always and see if the next time auto loads? I don't have the TPT with me at work now to test myself.

EDIT: may not work without a custom ROM or app. Setting to auto sync only makes the Android pop up saying to turn on storage.

There said smartphones has to be, uhm.. pre-mounted to be recognized. All external devices that works with TPT immediately uses pre-mounting model.
Android devices are using, uhm.. post-mounted strategy so "charging first".
The only way to change strategy to pre-mounted is a custom usb handler, such as clockworkmod recovery option "mount usb storage"(picked on device before plugging usb to TPT), multimount sdcard app (which seem may pre-mount device [in pro version though] before plugging it to TPT).
