Dirty Workaround Solution : Thinkpad 8 Wi-fi problems

2017-06-13, 10:57 AM

Hi all,

I am the owner of a Thinkpad 8 LTE 64 bits model with windows 10 pro.

Since my wifi is not working anymore  : most famous error Broadcom 802.11abgn Wireless SDIO will not start (Code 10).It seems a very common issue with broadcom drivers and have not been able to find a reliable solution to fix this driver problem.

Not even a full reinstallation of windows or reverting back to windows 8 fix this problem that i have been having for 3 months now and i have been running windows 10 from about 2 years with no issue before.

Luckily the bluetooth part still works reliably since it is the same chip that does both wifi and bluetooth.

My workaround so far, is having either a tethered solution usb ethernet cable, using LTE or plug in the following adapter wifi below(see pictures).

Needless, to say this is  a cheap workaround and i would like a better solution than putting stress on my usb connector, putting more stress on battery life

I could tolerate it if it was on a laptop but being a tablet this is ridiculous.

Thanks Lenovo for looking and adressing this issue that affects several users here that have not given up yet.

LENOVO , Any idea how to fix my wifi problem (code error 10 in device manager and no wifi detected just like if the device doesn't power on and goes into some kind of deep sleep only).

We need a new driver or a program that reinitializes the broadcom 4324 Wifi chipset or make it reboot.

Thanks

Hello, sorry i have absolutely no news.

I even tried alternate drivers from asus with not much successs.....maybe i need to install new acpi drivers to revive the wifi card.

I got no response from Lenovo whatsoever on this forum, i don't know how to contact their hotline because since my tablet is out of warranty, i cannot even register my incident or get in touch with a repair centre in France-Europe.

Even though i know it is a software problem.

I rarely use this thinkpad 8 4G LTE anymore on the go, i am using a Xperia Z3 Compact LTE  tablet which is an 8 inches device and so far very reliable.

My workaround with the wifi dongle still works and since i have the Lenovo Y usb 3.0 cable(and a second usb 2.0 generic) i can use the dongle if i want to have wifi connectivity while charging the tablet.

I will stay away from Lenovo until this issue even if i did buy lately their thinkpad stack and mobile projector but this is for another post in another forum.

Im sorry to hear that.

I’ve always been a loyal customer of Thinkpad products but lately have also been having some issues which Lenovo has not helped.

Ita a shame as Thinkpad products used to be high quality.

I just came across this thread. I have exactly the same issue. My tablet is now useless to me. It is a shame since it works great other than the WiFi not working.

I have a bit of affection for the nice tablet and it is like losing a friend.

The card cannot even be changed as it is soldered to the board. I checked.

Forgot to say...I even went the extra mile (50 dollars fee) to send my thinpad 8 in European Lenovo Repair center for inspection and repair 2 years  ago since i am still pretty sure it is a driver software issue that cripples the hardware. All they did was to offer to replace the motherboard for 500 euros, i am pretty sure they don't know or care how to fix it...Standard procedure is exchange or replace hardware not fix it...so in that case the whole motherboard since wifi chip is soldiered in.
