Believe me, I understand your anger. My frustration over the GPS issue is long-standing and DEEP. I bought a GPS receiver today for $23.00 that will hopefully mitigate my anger and let me use the GPS. It really is crappy to be forced into this by Lenovo - also unforgivable. I vote with my money. Five thumbs down equals no further purchases and ZERO respect.
Finally! Nine months in to my TPT ownership I have GPS. This little gem http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007B2QDFQ/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00 did for me in five minutes what Lenovo hasn't been able to do since day one. Now I can at least use one more advertised feature that wasn't included. Wish I could do something about the camera.

My GPS only works when Wi-Fi is enabled. No solution to that yet?

Received TPT back from warranty repairs and GPS works no better despite a motherboard change out. Sigh.

What I don't understand is why there isn't a clear explanation from Lenovo concerning this problem.

How did this problem get by testing?

Is there poor communication with the factory?

Is the problem so prevalent that there could be a product recall which would be too expensive?

Does Lenovo know what the problem is?

If the problem is truly sample to sample then that would imply an assembly problem, cracked solder joint or a high failure rate of the GPS sensor.

Sony recently shut down manufacture of their Experia tablet because of a manufacturing defect and promised fixes for all who have a problem.  That's taking ownership of a problem.

If tablets are being returned for service and there's no change in GPS performance, that is, not fixed that tells me that Lenovo doesn't know, cannot fix or has made a "business decision" to not fix.

The prolonged silence and lack of a certain fix or explanation is just begging for a "critsit" (IBM'ers & Lenovo'ers should know that term).  Customer satisfaction 101:  do not ignore the customer, keep the information and status flowing (even if there is no news -- just keep checking in), take ownership of the problem.  Someone at Lenovo isn't adhereing to their Personal Business Commitments.

What I found helpful was to perform a full factory wipe from the Google/Android (3e) recovery menu.  Although the GPS acquiring and lock was very slow and poor afterwards, it did work.

If a full wipe would help my solution would have arrived long ago. I've done a few.

Not surprising.  I had the same experience.  When I called customer service they were not interested in hearing that it was not fixed, and follow up on that.  All they wanted to do is give me a new case number and start the process over again.

My experience after a while with ICS is that the GPS functions MUCH better than before. On a newly booted TPT, it works as it should. First Fix is in 20 sec - 1 minute, not as good as my phone, but acceptable.

However, there is definately something going on in the SW, when the TPT is switched on for a day or two, there's no chance to get a fix without a reboot.

If I get a fix at all, outdoors, it takes forever, when my phone and GNote both show 16 satellites and all being used.
