ICS not renewing Wi-Fi connection when waking tablet-- anyone else?

2012-06-26, 15:57 PM

Hello, all.  I searched but didn't see a thread for my exact issues-- all apologies if I missed it.

I installed the ICS update this morning, and am glad to have it.

But, I have one problem that has surfaced constantly this morning, despite several reboots:

Every time the tablet rests/screen times out for more than a minute or so, the Wi-Fi connection drops.  When I hit the power button to reactivate the tablet, the Wi-Fi will not reconnect automatically.  Rather, I have to go to settings, turn off Wi-Fi, and then turn it back on in order to renew the connection.

Anyone else having this issue?

Any easy remedies, apart from looking for a "Wi-Fi" keep alive app, which would likely impact my battery life negatively.

This was not a problem as of last night, but is new with the ICS install.

Thanks,

JCHP

I'll consider this issue "closed."  The factory reset seems to have solved my Wi-Fi issue.

Thanks for the inputs.

I used to have the issue with HC.  I have not noticed it yet with ICS but it's still early.  If it does pop up, I can give you a list of apps I have installed to see if there may be a common link due to software.

Thanks.  I think I'm going to do a full factory reset and see it is still a problem or not.  I had reset it last week to send it for service for the power button problem, but in the last few days had went ahead and reinstalled a bunch of apps.

Anyone else seeing this issue?

Most of the time its best to reset after an OS update like this. So post back your results please.

Also I believe the wifi settings are a bit different. It's worded different in the wifi settings. Like HC says choose sleep and we select never, now you choose always stay connected or something like it. (tablets at home atm, will confirm it shortly)

All,

I had the same issue with the WiFi not working after waking up the TPT.   I did a "Factory Data Reset" under Backup & reset option in Settings, and this issue was resolved.   This was also a good opportunity for me to clean the house and not re-install those apps that I barely used...

Overall this ICS update is quite nice.  Everything runs pretty smoothly...

Cheers,

I did a factory reset prior to the ICS upgrade and all is working well (much smoother actually) so far (I still have to configure a few apps etc.). However, it appears that my TPT only automatically reconnects to the most recently connected SSID. I am usually moving between (remembered) WiFi networks and 3G.

I performed a factory reset. It corrected the WiFi dropping out frequently.

I am still having issues with remembered networks automatically reconnecting when I move from one to another or when I wake the tablet back up. Tried both turn off when screen off and turn off when sleeping. I have to manually connect each time.

The factory reset did not resolve the 'automatic connection' to remembered networks.
