OTA2 Update root and CWM(clockwork mod)

2012-02-17, 16:58 PM

Saw update notification this morning, did rootkeeper temp un-root, hit restart and install.  Install fails because E:signature verification fail.

I think this is because I put Clockwork on as the recovery manager, I'm backing things up in titanium backup and am going to factory wipe, re-root, re-temp-un-root, and attempt the OTA2 update with the stock recovery manager.  Will let you know how that goes...also, anyone else having this issue, and/or a fix for it?

thank you all for your quick replies.  The answer, was, very literally in front of my face.  The part that the clockwork people neglected to mention was that in order to restore "factory" recovery agent, one must (using root obviously) execute the install-recovery.sh script on the device, in my case I ran it in rootexplorer, that reflashes the correct recovery partition, and then you can get the update as normal, while keeping root (with rootkeeper)

Perhaps Xda or the other ThinkPad forum might be a good place to check. Haven't seen this issue posted anywhere yet.

My understanding is that factory wipe doesn't remove root.

well, it isn't the root I'm trying to remove...its the Clockword recovery mod that needs to go, apparently it doesn't play nicely with the OTA2 update...

Xda is definitely the place to post then. I'm sure someone there will be able to help.

also, you are correct, doing a factory reset on a rooted tablet does not remove root. :)

and somewhat more sadly, doing a factory reset DOES NOT replace the recovery partition with the original.

You'll probably have to ADB push the old recovery just like you installed CWM Recovery.

I didn't think factory reset would restore the original partition. Another poster on thinkpadtabletforums knows how to do it. I've asked for instructions.

Here is a post that responded to my request for instructions. Hopefully it helps in some small way.

The answer is a couple of posts from the top.
