Re: OTA2 Update root and CWM(clockwork mod)

2012-02-17, 18:52 PM

I also have my tablet (32gb usa version) rooted and CWR installed. Turns out the install-recovery.sh file on my tablet doesnt do anything, certainly doesnt restore the factory recovery loader. right now i cant install the v86 update, it reboots, progress bar starts, and then it gives me the android on its back with the hatch open and the red triangle, then it reboots back to the OS. i've tried manually running the v86 zip installer from CWM recovery but it also fails

should i restore the install-recovery.sh file from another tablet? does anyone have this (or the text contents of it) to send/post? or are there other files i need that are probably lost at this point?

My TPT was updated to OTA2 hours ago.

No wipe needed.

Just temp un-rooted with rootkeeper, and then start updating.

Till the Green Guy stopped, power off manuelly and re-start the TPT. Updated successful message showed up.

Re-install Superuser, Open rootkeeper and restore su-backup. All done!

Everything is fine now.

So you were able to update with OTA2, and successfully restore root. Super!

I don't believe the issue is with keeping root with the OTA2, I think we've all heard numerous reports of it working with Rootkeeper OTA. I think the issue is with people who have CWR installed instead of the default recovery image.

I'd like to know more details on the ability to install the OTA2 update but keeping CWR. Haven't seen much activity over at XDA on the issue, so I'll keep my eyes open.

EDIT:  I have found the install-recovery.sh within the OTA2 update. If you open the zip file containing the update, you'll see a /recovery directory containing said file. Not sure if this will work to restore the original recovery, but worth a shot :P

You get the 0075 zip from Lenovo downloads, in it in the recovery directory is the install-recovery.sh, it must be moved to the /system/etc directory on the tablet, then, using (in my case) rootexplorer, run the script, it will over-write the recovery partition with the stock one. Then start the tablet, get the update (or just search for it again and hit install and restart). It will work flawlessly :-) hope that helps.

Yes, I had pulled together pieces, but not the full picture until obscure's post. Thanks for confirming that all of my thoughts were right on target.

thank you all for your quick replies.  The answer, was, very literally in front of my face.  The part that the clockwork people neglected to mention was that in order to restore "factory" recovery agent, one must (using root obviously) execute the install-recovery.sh script on the device, in my case I ran it in rootexplorer, that reflashes the correct recovery partition, and then you can get the update as normal, while keeping root (with rootkeeper)

Tried the manual reset during the update and using the install-recovery.sh from the 0075 download to no avail however.

going to wait and see if there is a solution, unless there is and I didn't notice it lol XD
