Lenovo advertised and sold the TPT on the lenovo site with a big banner "Android 4.0 update in May 2012".  Its the middle June 2012 and no update for the USA has appeared.  How many TPT units did Lenovo sell in the US during February and March under this false pretense?  I notice the banner is now removed from the site.   This is a classic case of false advertising, the very definition in fact. Check out this article

http://www.ehow.com/info_7800161_consumer-rights-regarding-false-advertising.html. I can picture the countless US lawyers, some TPT owners themselves, filing class papers right now. I bought my TPT right after the announcement of the update to be May 22nd 2012, which was also later removed from the lenovo site and forums. Glad I saved the pages with the banner lie and the fony date.  They still show up in google's catched page versions too if you search. Which is good, cause that is the evidence required.

Extremely dissapointed.

You would have a snowball's chance in hell at winning a false advertising suit on these facts.  You would need to show some type of injury that only would have been resolved if you had ICS in May rather than when it was released.  I really don't see that being possible.

I appreciate Lenovo taking the time to make a version of ICS that works well.

Re: OTA3 US has been delayed

It IS Lenovos fault.  Lenovo advertised an improved product and are still selling the old unimproved one in the US.  The US cell carriers didn't advertise or sell any of these tablets, so how is it their fault lenovo mislead buyers with an untrue description of their product on Lenovos owned website?   Also, Lenovo knew what was involved with release and the certification process, it isn't their first OTA OS update.

It IS unacceptable to make claims and sell things under false pretenses.  In my opinion, the executive that made the advertising decision should be let go. But lenovo probably promoted them instead, because sales are up.

I know the devs are doing the best they can to correct the issues found with this rushed release, probably working doubletime so Lenovo doesn't get sued over this execs decision to advertise a release date they were not able to attain.  I know this is most likley true because I've been a software developer for 15 years, and thats happened at a 2 of the companies for which I no longer work.  I'm not telling who....

The best policy is to not advertise and sell a product as improved until it IS improved and ready to roll out.  In my opinion this should be a law to protect consumers and stop rushed releases with bugs being pushed just to hit dates.  Many companies already realised this, and don't give dates.  Lenovo should have left it at "comming soon", just to let folks know they are working on it, at least until it is tested, certified, and ready to roll out to production.  Then after all that, they can advertise the rollout date and a New and Improved product.

I know, ethical business practices are hard to follow, cause it doesn't bring in as much money as lying.  But not following them is worse. It leads to things like, your house all of a sudden being valued at 50% of what you bought it for overnight, and the bank taking it away unless you can come up with the difference.

Re: OTA3 US has been delayed

Its mostly a principal thing.  They lied so I'd choose to buy thier product over another and I can prove that.   I don't want money at all, I just want lying in advertising to be stopped, and punishible by regulation, laws, and fines.    I feel so sorry for humanity in that so many people defend such a bad practice and think its totally OK. Me personally I'm sick to death of being lied too and ripped off by these huge businesses that make more money in a day than I will in my entire life.  And actually I am hurt financially by this delay, I'm a developer.  And right now I still cannot test my Android 4.0 applications for release on the TPT.  I could have had 75,000 downloads right now, for all I know someone in WE had my same idea for an app and is getting all my customers right now.

The words "lie" and "lying" are getting extremely overused in our society.

I have no doubt that Lenovo fully intended to meet its stated delivery date of May 2012 for its Ice Cream Sandwich OS update.  The fact they have not done so is not evidence of a "lie."  It may, however, indicate some competency issues.

Waiting for certification by carriers doesn't explain the delay in updating WiFi only units (e.g. 1838-22U).  There are no bloody carriers involved. :manfrustrated:

Except for the fact that both 3G and WiFi models use the same operating system image.

And that is Lenovo's fault. If they would instead offer one system image for 3G models, and another for Wifi, then a lot of us wouldn't be waiting so long for updates.

The other edge of that sword, of course, is that Lenovo could then use Wifi tablet owners as beta testers for OTAs before pushing them to carriers. =P

you cant have it both ways, demand a release date, and then call them liars if it doenst work out.  I have a Galaxy SII and my carrier wont even say when ICS is coming.   On those boards its nothing but begging for a release date.

The reality is Lenovo isnt even the last manufacture to release ICS many manufactures that have been in the android business for far longer are still being very cautious with their roll out.

So Lennovo as far as I'm concerned take your time but for the love of Pete get it right!

Ditto that.   No one is going to die because they didn't get ICS this week.

Trying to get back on topic. ICS is around the corner.

Let them work those bugs out first. You don't want a rushed ICS with issues like in WE do you?

I know for a fact it's working great and they are just making sure it stays working without other issues.

And as someone else here on the forum mentioned, it is not just Lenovo, there are plenty of other companies with ICS issues on their devices. But once those bugs are fixed it runs smoothly.

Trust me, I know the TPT runs great on ICS. Just be a little more patient and then you can enjoy a much improved Android OS. It's well worth it.
