@terry: Like you, I think updating drivers is next, particularly the power management driver. The latest was released Dec 2019 (https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/n2hku07w.txt). Pretty sure my unit didn't have this driver. A job for tonight.

Sadly, the X1T won't power up at all, and I'm loath to open it up again to disconnect the battery. Time to send it in to let Lenovo have a look at it.

Update: Turns out that the power circuitry on the motherboard had died. According to the tech, most probably due to the USB-C charger being accidentally inserted into the USB-3 port instead of the USB-C port. Cost around USD 180 to fix. HTH someone else.
