I managed to back up the Notes Mobile app, so it is doable.

Have you tried extracting the apk?

If this is possible too, then we could install onto a 3rd-party ROM and still get the functionality of the app.

I know there are plenty of other similar (or better) apps but NotesMobile does have its appeal, esp the OCR function.

No. I'm pretty much an Android noob for anything like that.

Hi pghFL,

If I don't wish to root, does this pretty much mean I cannot find a way to back up this app?

Cheers!

You can't completely remove the AppShop, ContentDeliveryService and other mobihand apps/services without root privileges. There are ways to get root but none are endorsed by Lenovo and doing so probably voids the warranty.

Don't worry as the AppShop app and assoc services don't interfere that much with the system even though the actual App Shop itself isn't available. The worst you'll get are intermittent annoying popups.

If they bother you, talk to Lenovo customer services. It's almost 2 months on and no sign of what should be a simple patch to remove these apps ... Lenovo's care factor seems to have evaporated.

My power button is now stuffed on my TPT and hopefully I'm getting a new board put in tomorrow.  Here's the saga in full on a different page http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-slate-tablets/Technical-support-not-available-from-New-Zealand/m-p/919573/highlight/false#M19642

A new board obviously means I loose the apps that I've paid for.  When I questioned the tech reps about what I should do they insisted that I back up (I think I correct in thinking that you can't do that unless you've rooted your TPT which some say invalidates your warranty) or reload them from lenovo.  When I pointed out that the lenovo store had closed down they didn't believe me and I had to quote the message from Mark above.

If you want to know more of the saga follow the link above.

You can backup your installed applications without root. What you can't backup are the Lenovo applications that are regarded as system applications, as far as I know.

You also loose the updates that has been provided via the store on those applications that are bundled, not sure if you can apply those from a backup.
