TPT2: GPS not working at all

2014-07-18, 16:15 PM

Hi,

On my TPT2, I have most of the latest drivers, and have been working essentially fine for some months now. On a recent trip to Toronto, I decided to try and use the GNSS chip with Bing Maps and Nokia Here. Neither could pinpoint my location.

I tried re-installing the GPS chip driver (which somehow has never been updated since 2012???) and now the device manager shows, under sensors, that the Broadcom GNSS Geolocation Sensor is working properly, but somehow, the Windows Location Provider is disabled, becase "The device is not working properly because Windows canot load the drivers requested for the device. (Code 31)".

Has anyone got the GNSS sensor working properly in their Tablet, and if they had issues, can you point me to possible fixes?

Thanks.

If I recall correctly, I had a similar situation to yours. I removed and deleted the drivers for both the Windows Location Service and the Broadcom hardware and reinstalled them. The Broadcom driver I installed manually, I think that Windows automatically installed the necessary drivers for the Location Service.

Thanks Gcoupe. Fixed, but with some tweaking of your tip.

The installer for the GNSS is a batch file, not a standard MSI. So when I tried to install from Windows Explorer, the resulting command line window showed a bunch of "Access Denied." messages.

My solution:

1. Went to Device Manager, uninstalled both devices, and checked the box in the GNSS uninstall to "remove" the driver.

2. Restarted the computer.

3. Opened an Administrator's Command Prompt(accesible from Windows + X)

4. Went to C:\Drivers\Win\Gps\

5. typed install.bat.

6. Drivers installed properly.

7. Windows Location Sensor appears as needed, but does not stay "live" in device manager.

Location now working properly in Bing Maps, Metro IE, and Firefox.
