Re: TPT2 has USB port power issue

2013-01-17, 23:10 PM
We know that all thumb drives work correctly. It is most USB DVD burners and USB 2.0 and 3.0 external hard disk drives that don't. I have A new Seagate, Toshiba, Western Digital and Lenovo external non-powered drives and they will not read. I have three USB DVD burners that are less than one year old and none of them can be read either. It-seems that all powered devices will work, but most new devices don't have a powered option. It is evident that this is a power issue with the TP2. I have tested these devices with the Samsung ATIV 500 t, 700 t, the Asus vivo TAB 810, Fujitsu Q 702, Sony VAIO Duo, HP Envy X2, HP Slate 2, Samsung Series 7 Slate, Dell Latitude 10 and the Motion CL 900. These are all competing tablets and they all power these devices correctly. Please get Some engineers involved So that we can be told whether this is fixable or not. There are many customers waiting to return these devices if there is no fix. Not to mention the bad publicity that will ensue. Please don't blow us off. Thanks.

Mark thanks for checking in with us.  Please don't take this offensively, but shouldn't an engineer from Lenovo be looking at this?  We do appreciate your hard work, but this seems as if its a hardware issue.  Non powered devices do not work with the usb port, but as I've tested they do work with the Acer W510 and the Samsung 500T, its not a question of what works and doesn't, its a question of why don't unpowered devices work.  I think at this point without an engineer looking at these things, possibly measuring voltages etc., you are just wasting your own valuable time.

No disrespect but after 13 days, nearly 100 post Mark seems totally lost as to what the initial problem is. Many posters have spelled out in detail that unpowered usb HD/DVD/CD are not recognized neither at boot or normal operation but he comes back after several days still pretending not to know what the issue is.

BS Meter Overload.

It had to believe that a company would launch a product and not be aware of what the general sentiments or concerns the general public has about thier product, even after a full month. Do they want us to believe that the major Sales Reps or Devs have not hear about this issue?

Lenovo clearly knows about this issue by now and have chosen to ignore us, and then they wonder why Apple dominates. Its because of crap like this.

Go ahead Ignore us still.

Its obviously a delay technique from Mark. I haven't received my thinkpad 2 and after reading the forums, its blatantly obvious that unpowered HDD/ CD and DVD drives can't work with the USB on the thinkpad 2, the only thing that works are USB thumb drives. (Correct me if I am wrong). Its really not that hard to work it out. Making a post like that just infuriates the forum community. (Treating us like fools).

It'll be better if they just post "Whoops, sorry we stuffed up" rather then that lame arse excuse.

Re: TPT2 has USB port power issue

@Mark,

I tried two useful usb devices which worked fine on all my notebooks EXCEPT tpt2:

1) usb wifi adapter Roseville RNX-N1: no response after plugged in. I want to use this device because currently my tpt2 has poor wifi connection quality.

2. Seagate FreeAgent desktop usb 2.0 external 500GB hard drive with independent power adapter: tpt2 can't recognize it.

Both these devices work normal if I use a self powered usb hub (D-Link DUB-H7) between tpt2 and the usb device.

Based on the user response on the forum, I think it is obviously the usb port of tpt2 does not function well to meet most buyers expectation based on our experience of a standard usb port on a x86 windows pc. Do we really need to list so many usb devices that don't work on tpt2 to verify this usb problem?

That has been the only instance that I have seen someone report that issue.  It doesn't even follow the same issue this thread is talking about.  Mine should be here tuesday and I will be testing everything for you guys.  :)
