Re: TPT2 has USB port power issue

2013-01-21, 19:15 PM

After I have spent hours of testing, upgraded the BIOS to V. 1.21, had some fiddle with drivers, settings, ... with no succes and no sign of interrest of Lenovo in helping out (in this matter or in the matter of stalling system after sleep http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-slate-tablets/TPT2-Problems-after-prolonged-sleep/m-p/979927/highlight/true#M20282 or any other issue from this thread http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-slate-tablets/Tpt2-issues-thread/m-p/984533/highlight/true#M20388 ), I came to the conclusion to return this piece of evidence for poor QA and support!

Good riddance! :smileymad:

For those who got stuck with this expensive table mat - BEST WISHES, maybe LenoLOL will wake up some time - hope dies last!

Yeah I'm returning mine tomorrow as well, just have to confirm newegg won't charge me a restock fee.  Im going to wait for the surface pro, or maybe just wait until the w510 is on sale again at $399.  I'm just not getting a good feeling after having spent $700.

Returned both of mine and I won't even think about the Helix. After this experience my company and I are done with Lenovo!

My TPT2 finally arrived today. My overall initial impression is positive. I've installed Office 2013 and a number of mapping/GPS applications. Including a few resource hogs. The applications are a bit slower than my i7 machine, no surprise, but the portability, size and overall package more than makes up for the reduced performance.

Wifi has been good throughout the house. I even installed Office from the connection with no problems.

My only disappointment is with the USB device issue. I'm currently unable to run my Seagate Expansion 1TB drive.

Hopefully my good experience continues and Lenovo can work on the USB issue!

You will probably be able to use your drive if you connect it to a powered hub (with the hub connected to AC for power) and connect the hub to your tablet. That's not a bad solution for when you're at home; it's not so great otherwise.

Agreed. Beside the usb power issue, I have no major complaints about the tablet (such as I don't like the NON-ENCRYPTION label plastered on the back). I have successively used a usb y cable to power my external hard drive to transfer some files. This of course is only a temporary workaround and I am expecting to hear from Lenovo about the usb port power issue soon.

My tablet came in today as well! So far, the only issue I have seen is the USB power issue. WiFi works great, no Blue Screens yet (knocks on wood), tested HDMI out and it worked flawlessly. Word to the wise, download a youtube app and try not to view them directly. This tablet does not like flash. (As would any low performance device).

Overall, I am loving this device. The support aspect, meh... But i'm hoping using this tablet will help make up for the disappointments made in the process of getting it.

Is there anything you guys would like me to test out on it?
