Re: TPT2 has USB port power issue

No, I'd like one, too. I'm considering the HP Envy x2 for just this reason.

A great alternative is a case like the ZaggFolio. http://www.zagg.com/accessories/zaggfolio-ipad-2-keyboard-case

Lenovo could make a case like this that holds the existing Bluetooth keyboard and the tablet. It's important that the tablet be easy to remove, but not TOO easy (you don't want it falling out).

At this point I am expecting mark to come back and ask us to list the USB devices we were having difficulties with.

It rather strange through that no OEM came out with a Win8 10.1 tablet, full usb support, clamshell keyboard dock  and a digitizer.

Am I the only one in the market for this device?

This was what I was looking for, too. Plus aprox. 10h battery life, high speed (micro)SD card reader, 64GB SSD (eMMC just acceptable), full HD non glare screen (I don't glossy when using outdoors - what mobile would include for me) and as light (<600g) and thin (<1cm) as possible

I thought the TPT2 was the closest to get to this, but faild to deliver!

But I don't see need for Mark to ask for a list of USB devices that don't work. The few devices already mentioned in this thread should be enough reference that the USB has to be redesigned. I'd expect Mark to keep us posted, what engeneers will do about it, how far on they are with solving it and when we can reckon with a working TPT2 on the shelves, if at all!

: About the HP Envy x2, for me this was ruled out because the USB is only on the dock - no USB on the tablet itself.

The frustration that is OEM & Win 8 Tabs (10.1):

1. Asus Vivo Tab Smart - Everything but a digitizer
2. Dell Latitude 10 - Bit on the thick side, no keyboard dock (the funny thing is the RT Version has a beautiful clamshell dock... go figure)
3. TPT2 - No usb support*, crazy ass keyboard dock

4. HP Elite Pad - Low res, no keyboard dock

At this point I'm praying MS comes out with a 10.1 Atom Surface with digitizer.

I bought the Kensington Folio Universal case for the TPT2, It's going to take a while to get here but we'll see how it goes when it finally arrives.

Re: I'm hoping for a new day with the next iteration of this device...

I'm hoping that the successor to this device will be in the same 1.5 pound or less range with a similar size and a Haswell processor with digitizer, powered USB 3.0, zero fan noise and gps. That's the dream device for me at this point...

I don't recommend it, joesixgig. My TPT2 was in the "bad batch" of wifi-disabled machines, order placed before the first of the year, replacement tablet not shipping until 2/22 despite my having reported the issue more than two weeks ago.

Even if you luck out to get a good tablet, if anything ever happens to your device, Lenovo customer support will not support you appropriately. The TPT2 is a failure just like the TPT, all due to awful customer service from Lenovo.

@Skitalets  Sorry to hear about the bad luck. I've actually had pretty good experiences with Lenovo warranty service so far, but my concern is that this TPT2 would be for a non-techie who doesn't have the patience for troubleshooting. It needs to work right out of the box, so I'm keeping an eye on these threads.

At this point I'm even considering Surface Pro. For comparison, TPT2 with 64GB, Win8 Pro and keyboard dock: $850. Surface Pro 64GB Win8 Pro with type cover: $1030. OK, it's 1.5 times the weight, 30% thicker, and has 35% lower battery life, but it has a better screen, USB3.0, eraser on the pen, and is much more powerful. Might have its own issues though, we'll see.

Maybe we can start a thread "Just got your TPT2! Does it have any issues?" so we can track if the latests ones still suffer from the same problems.

Refering to the proposal of joesixgig, there is already a thread collecting TPT2 issues in this forum.

Maybe it would be good, if issue reports there would be posted with details about the TPT2 model, BIOS version, purchase/order date and if applicable a link to the thread on this forum that is dedicated to this one issue.

The operating system of the surface pro uses about 40 gbs leaving only 24 gbs of storage. Go for the 128 gb system for $100. more. I just cancelled my 19 Jan 2013 TPT2 order since it was not being shipped until 22 Feb 2013 and does not have a powered USB port along with questionable wi-fi.

@spwhiting  Noted, I just priced out the 64GB version for the fairest possible comparison. Anyway, I know I started this, but let's quickly get this thread back to discussing the status of the USB issue before the mods close the thread!

Re: TPT2 has USB port power issue

Here are some of my usb devices which do not Work on my TPT2. Bought the dock an they all Work on that. Also bought the Microsoft Wedge Bluetooth keyboard which also Works great. Do not have any more usb devices other than a bunch of powered ones to test. Have updated all drivers and WiFi working great, but have the problem with -trouble waking after sleep when inserted in the dock - though. Needs reboot to Work Again..

These do not Work:

WD 500gb usb - WD5000ME-01

WD 500gb usb - WDBACY5000ABK-00

WD 320gb usb - WD3200ME-01

Logitech micro usb mouse- Do not work when micro-reciever is inserted.

Come on Lenovo, how about some answers.?

Got hold of one more:

WD 1TB usb - WDBBEP0010BBK-01 do not Work..
