@Patanjali

You wrote.

"Again, if despite what you know you don't know, you order a device which you cannot get to touch and feel and test beforehand, you have accepted a huge risk of disappointment (due to incorrect assumptions), for which it is disingenuous to then spam a forum crying foul. And that is aside from creating a distorted image of the product which many might have found perfectly suitable for themselves otherwise."

Must say i disagree with you..

Not all who write in here se it as spamming. People tend to want the newest gear and many buy stuff as preorder. But in this case i really think that Lenovo set the expectation in peoples mind that i would work with most usb devices. I will learn to live with mine and i really like the formfactor and the weight, batterylife etc. Win 8 will evolve and some day be a great OS.

I dont cry foul, but Lenove do need to get out and explain. I do not mind if they arent able to get the usb-port to work as hinted in the manual, but i do mind if they won't answer the people which in my mind are ginnypigs on this product.

As for Mark he has done a good job in keeping people informed, but asking us to try devices out for them to pinpoint the problem is lame(sorry Mark). Your techs should be all over this.

Sorry for the language but its not my native language.

Hi folks,

please stick to the subject and take the personal discussion to PM or somewhere else, at least out of the boards or posts will start to disappear.

Sorry Andy,

for leading this thread off topic, but since you are round: Have you got any new input on the subject "TPT2 has USB port power issue"?

We (former) users can exchange experiances, can philosophise about reasons, possible solutions, even marvel about miraculous cures and so forth but after a while this will inevitably drift off into chitchat because there is no new input from engeneers that could actually ensure us that we are more than "Melkkühe" (cash cows) or just future beef.

I'd love to be able to give you further information, but seeing as all mods are pure volunteers and not employed by Lenovo, it's not possible for me to fulfill your request.

What I can say is, based on my over 5 years in this forum, that I'm positive this issue is being looked into and hasn't been forgotten.  As with other similar situations it will take time; unfortunately never as quick as members would hope.

I was answering your post, but to NOT direct generic comments at you by proximity, I used the term 'one' in my descriptions of the posting behaviours to which I was objecting.

But to your credit you did your due diligence, and took the risk.

Thanks for the clarification, but the introducing "@ScruffR" suggested to me, that I was meant.

Some DVD/CD burners come with a Y cable in order to get more than 500mA of power. If such a device didn't work on a Thinkpad Tablet 2 (or would read but not write CDs/DVDs) because it needed more than 500mA, I'd be fine with that.

But no hard disk drive I've seen does--and I own a half dozen of them. All of them should work on any USB 2.0 port.

I used to work for Microsoft. Windows is tested with a huge variety of computers and a huge variety of peripherals. It is not too much to expect Lenovo to spend a few thousand dollars buying a representative sample of peripherals for testing.

...and it's not too much to expect them to look into this and let folks know what's going on. Seriously, this does NOT give me a good feeling about these devices and Lenovo's support.
