ThinkPad Tab 8 poor performance, power on problems - I have worst XP with ThinkPads ever

2016-04-18, 13:24 PM

Hello Lenovo and Folks on forum

Before 4 months ago I decide replace Lanovo Tab 8 with Lenovo ThinkPad Tab 8 because android devices have poor software update support and now I see that this be mistake. In Last 12 years I use only ThinkPad/Centre Computers and I almost never have problem with it.

My Problems with ThinkPad Tap 8 start almost immediately on same day when I unbox it. its screen been damaged windows often opens itself randomly without I want and touch on it for open!!! (Like someone else control it remotely). Upgrade to Windows 10 won't help. So I send it to Lenovo Croatia on repair.

When screen been replaced I finally start work on tablet but now I see more problems:

A. Tablet also suffer from poor performance, freeze and long time it need to open applications multitasking is impossible. I think that this is due RAM shortage it have only 2GB of RAM and graphic use 200MB of it I try to resolve this problem with setup a virtual memory - PAGE FILE manually from automatic to 4GB but it don't work better. Windows 10 x32

B. battery have poor performance in recharging and endurance especially when screen is on. I resolve this problem with using a KallePG suggestion in this topic https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-Tablets/Battery-Drain-shutdown-and-boot-problem-thinkpad-8-amp-w10/td-p/2160008/page/2

C. Sometimes Tablet won't power UP when I press power button i need to made cold restart to bring it to life.

AFTER ALL THIS PROBLEMS WITH TABLET I WANT TO ASK YOU LENOVO US TO AUTHORIZE/APPROVE replacement of my TABLET PLANAR/MOTHERBOARD with new PLANAR from different ThinkPad Tab 8 model which have 4GB of system RAM in Lenovo Croatia otherwise I think that I can Throw away it into garbage and waste 209 Euros.

I can pay new planar with 4GB of RAM but I don't give for it more of 80$

I'm not rich men and as person with disability I need 4 about months to save enough money for buy a new one!

Tablet is under warranty.

Thank you for understanding

I Have this Lenovo Computers
1. Think Centre M58 from 2008 an it is still good (Intel Q9550, 8GB DDR3, Radeon 6970, Intel SSD)
2. ThinkPad E540
3 ThinkPad Tab 2 (with it I have many problems)
4. Lenovo Vibe Z2

ThinkPad 8 tablet comes with Windows 8.1 preinstalled, not Windows 10. 2 GB RAM is pretty ok for 32 bit system. As for other issues update BIOS and drivers, disable Fast Startup feature.

The tablet is not in production for a long time so you might get an used one.

Yes It original comes with 8.1, I updated BIOS and all drivers with Lenovo system update and nothing help, system works very slow and have power on problems. Resolving it every time with cold restart

I resolve battery draining with disabling of Fast Startup and change power button function to shutdown as KallePG suggest in this topic https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-Tablets/Battery-Drain-shutdown-and-boot-problem-thinkpad-8-amp-w10/td-p/2160008/page/2

Condition of my tablet been as seller say:
Neuwertig (Keine oder minimale Gebrauchsspuren)

As for power issues run powercfg /sleepstudy command to create report, more information here http://www.hanselman.com/blog/PowerCfgTheHiddenEnergyAndBatteryToolForWindowsYoureNotUsing.aspx

Changing the power button function from going to Sleep (Connected Standby) mode to Shutdown degrades the tablet usability in general because you have to restart it over and over. The sleep mode works well, if all drivers and firmware is updated properly. That's my experience using Windows 8.1. I consider Windows 10 useless on small 8" tablet because of this

According the screenshot your model is equipped with 3G modem. Make sure latest firmware is used. Check manually latest software downloads here http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/tablets/thinkpad-tablet-series/thinkpad-8 System Update is not always reliable.
