ThinkPad Tablet Source Code

[ Edited ]

We have received requests to make the code for our Android tablets available.  Lenovo follows all license requirements including open source licenses - this is part of our development process.   I expect we will shortly have a tech tip page on our support site with additional information, and links for download of the code made available under GPL license for our android powered tablets.

In the interim, here is a link where you may download the code for the ThinkPad tablet.  This is made available for developer purposes and is not applicable for normal use of the tablet.  This was for the honeycomb release.

UPDATE - Here is the link to support site page for the ICS release source code

Best regards,

ThinkPads: S30, T43, X60t, X1, W700ds, IdeaPad Y710, IdeaCentre: A300, IdeaPad K1

Re: ThinkPad Tablet Source Code

Hi Mark,

This is great news - thanks for providing this!

I'm sure it will result in good things for non-developers as well as developers Smiley Happy

Re: ThinkPad Tablet Source Code

Guess you can't please everyone.

If you don't release it, you're in violation.

If you eventually release it, it's too little too late.

Re: ThinkPad Tablet Source Code

I guess what I'm saying is maybe to them this IS on-time.

We can only speculate how they set their priorities.

They had never given a time frame as to when it WOULD be released--to my knowledge.

Given these patch releases and testing I'm sure they had to also get approval (even though they are required, I'm sure someone still had to sign off on it.) and documentation in order to release this.

Re: ThinkPad Tablet Source Code

I don't think that's a fair comparison. They are different devices, probably with different people responsible for them. Much like the TPT is a "business" device and the A1 and K1 are consumer. I'm sure they fall under someone's else's umbrella.

I'm not defending the fact that they are in violation or anything like that, but I think it's easy to overlook that they are new to the whole world of Android and probably have to make new SIPs and policies on the fly, which is probably why everything feels like it is on a delay compared to other manufacturers.

Re: ThinkPad Tablet Source Code

Come on, stay calm on this subject. They released finally the source code. Better late than never!

And I'm sure that if you ask them politely they will also release what has not been released until now. I'm sorry for Mark not having chosen the right words for the announcement (I think he is completely new to this topic). But if you open your eyes what we, i.e. the forum users, write here, some of us do actually not choose the right words too. And I do not exclude myself by saying this.
