Re: Thinkpad Android Tablet

I've used Android on 2 cellphones, I love it! Gives me linux kind of feel. I like the concept of ThinkPad + Android running tablet.

Re: Thinkpad Android Tablet

Since the ThinkPad Android Tablet is officially announced now, and having in mind it is the work horse, enterprise class tablet, it would be interesting for me to get the information how about projecting the content from tablet to projectors, like f.e. powerpoint presentations. ThinkPad Tablet has HDMI out interface and one very important question here is if the tablet itself has the possibility to switch the output signal from digital to analog. Why? For two reasons:

  • the most projectors still accept only VGA signal and
  • while there are plenty of HDMI to VGA adaptors, the significant difference is the price - most of them are so called passive, i.e, the signal has to be already converted from digital to analog in order for projector to be able to display it via VGB port. Either the source device (aka Tablet) has the ability to convert the signal to analog first or the cable has to have some active converting adapter and that skyrocket the price to approx.€ 150. Only a few laptops have such ability, therefore I would be very surprised if ThinkPad tablet would bring such feature OOTB.

As we can see, offering the tools for the professionals opens the other kind of Pandora box Smiley Wink. On the other side, I would not be surprised to get short reply from Lenovo "If you are a professional and you buy this stuff, you will have another €150 to invest in active HDMI to VGA converter".
