Re: Thinkpad Tablet 2 - First impressions

"I have not had any WiFi issues. Once the TFT2 comes out of sleep it immediately reconnects to my WiFi. No lags or limited connections."

I may have mis-spoke. With the Iconia W510, at the beginning, I had a lot of issues with the WiFi crashing/or going into limited mode when it comes out of sleep. With the TPT2, I do not have that issue.

Once the TPT2 is activated from sleep, I am connected and ready to go.

You have the Bluetooth keyboard right? How did you set that up? Does it have a default PIN and paired like any other device? Can it be used while detached from the tablet? Thanks for the info!

It's a bluetooth KB, but a non-Lenovo. It's a KB I used with my iPad. It pairs like any other BlueTooth device.

According to Lenovo's sales chat, they have no idea when the 3G/4G option will be available, and I was told that you can not add it as an option later.

Thanks v much 1sTemp1ar - look forward to your vid. Thanks also for the comparison with the W510, I had also initially  considered this device but decided the TFT2 was significantly superior.

Re: Thinkpad Tablet 2 - First impressions

Well, I am glad that the tpt2 reviews so far has been mostly positive.

One of my main worries with regards to the tpt2 is whether the physical buttons...notably that of the power button on the tpt2 is able to withstand normal usage because in the tpt1, I have seen that there has been quite a few power buttons going out and breaking from even just normal usage. (the soldering on the motherboard which connects the button together has broken off on the tpt1.) From your usage, have you noticed anything irregular with the power button on the tpt2?

Thanks

unit8888888, I have not noticed anything irregular with the power button.   Everytime I have used it it responded as expected.   This is in contrast to the W510 I used, on the W510, the power button was not responsive and I had to press it multiple times to have the unit actually power up.

On the TPT2, I find myself using the windows button to wake the tablet as opposed to the power button.

On the DB tests,

Working with Access 2010 and performing complex queries against a table with 250,000 rows, I did not notice any performance issues.  The TPT2 might have been a second slower...

But Access 2010 seems to have some compatibitly issues with Windows 8.   During a txt import, it does not process the txt file correctly and does not allow me to put in a custom field delimiter.   This is not related only to the TPT2, I tested this on a regular notebook running Windows 8 Pro and experienced the same behavior.

The Access 2010 also crashed the TPT2 during one of my attempts to import the txt file, may be related to the compabitiblity issue mentioned above...

Working with FileMaker Pro 12, I did notice significant performance degratation.    What took 3-4 seconds on my desktop took 14 seconds on the TPT2.

Wow, thanks for the info 1sTemp1ar.  So far it sounds like a cool device!

Do you know if it is Wacom as the digitzer?  Does it have Wacom drivers?

I am currently waiting on the Surface Pro to come out and say what digitizer it is using before buying but have narrowed my list down to eiher the Asus Vivo Tab, the Lenovo ThinkPad 2 or the Surface Pro (IF they are wacom).

I looked at your inking tests and they look very nice.  I plan on mostly using my tablet as a portable sketch pad and Internet device, so really would like Wacom.

" There is no way to select multiple messages (that I could figure out) and the fact that it has very little options and configurability is annoying."

Yeah, that annoyed me too until someone told me you have to use the "flick" gesture (horizontally) to select multiple messages.  That made it much more bearable.

Thanks for the review, I'm still waiting for mine to ship.  They finally charged my card, but that was three days ago and I still don't have a shipment notice or change on my order status page :-(
