Re: Thinkpad Tablet 2 - First impressions

Got my tablet today, so I can't really give an accurate battery usage report, but from the time I've used it today, I have been streaming videos from netflix, youtube, as well as the screen almost constantly on and I have not seen much drain in battery.

The only issue I have witnessed in my testing has been the USB issue.

TPT2 doesn't seem to play nice with Flash DRM video.  Anything over 480p results in severe frame-dropping.  I've tried VUDU (streaming and downloaded), Cinemanow and Amazon Prime.  The result is the same.  The funny thing is that the CPU never goes much above 30%.  It can't be the video format, since Flash video at 1080p from YouTube streams fine.

Anybody have better luck?  Or ideas why this is happening?

@mdonahuerib

I had the same issues with flash.  But if you dl a youtube metro app, then the videos work flawlessly, so I think it is just flash.

Re: Thinkpad Tablet 2 - First impressions

Well after about a day since I received my TPT2, here are my thoughts.

1. The usb issue has been beat to death.  So I don't have to comment on that.

2. WiFi -So far the WiFi connection seems to be on par or better than on my ASUS TF101, dell laptop, and htc evo 4g lte. I was able to connect to both my home network and work network with no issues.

3. I've been able to stream video from websites (crackle, Netflix, Hulu) with no issues.

4. Inking has been about on par with what I expected. I had a meeting today and purposely left a notepad at the office and just used my tablet for notes. After getting used to things, I was pleasantly surprised with accuracy.

5. I don't have an hdmi to vga adapter yet so I don't know how an external monitor works but did run a connection to an external tv with no problems.

Overall, I am pleased with the TPT2 so far. Its performed well in everything that I have done so far. Even the onscreen keyboard works pretty well. Speaking of keyboards, I purchased a Bluetooth keyboard from amazon and paired it on the first try.  Knock on wood, but it seems that I got a good unit.

Mine arrived today and I've spent the last few hours updating, transferring, and configuring. Initial impressions were good, then things started freezing, crashing, needing reboots, and my keyboard is acting oddly. Hope after a bit it gets its sea-legs.

Is anyone using a touch keyboard other than the OEM touch keyboard? Links, please. The keyboard doesn't work for me. If I click a text field it doesn't pop up. I have to click the taskbar shortcut to make it activate, and I don't want a shortcut on my taskbar, then it won't let me rename folders. It will not come up for me once I start the rename process. Anyone else with this issue?

Re: Thinkpad Tablet 2 - First impressions

Anyone else think the TPT2 seems a little flimsy? It fell out of my hands a couple of days ago (in the slim case) and the case cracked open. Easy enough to click it back together, but I can't imagine this happening with an iPad or even a Kindle Fire (I have both). In normal use the TPT2 just seems a little fragile. There's quite a bit of flex in the case, I find. Just pulling down on the sides with both hands a little results in pressure on the screen almost immediately.

There's a lot to like functionality-wise, and I think Windows 8 is a good choice for my needs. It seems difficult to get a device that is:
1) Light - comparable to an iPad
2) Sturdy
3) Has all-day battery life
4) Runs Win8 (not RT)
5) Has an active digitizer

That's not even adding other nice-to-haves such as a 1080p screen, decent speakers. I am also not judging devices on their (optional or included) keyboard docks. I want a tablet first and foremost, with the ability to use a keyboard if I want (I'm using an HP TouchPad Bluetooth keyboard I had lying around and I'm happy with it).

Wonders never cease around here...Did you actually buy it or was it a replacement for your TPT1 that they couldn't fix? If you bought it then why?...Why?...Why?:smileyhappy:

@ameridian

There's no alternative out there ameridian. I would buy Dell Latitude 10 if it had pen silo.

But my ideals were USB port, pen silo and 10.1 inch.
I would have bought ATIV Smart PC 500T if it had better quality.
