Re: Thinkpad Tablet 2 Wifi Issue

I'll add that I can replicate the issue on Cisco AP's at work and also my DLink AP at home.  Cisco is a G network with only WPA encryption.  Dlink is N with WPA2.  Both act exactly the same.

Does the issue persist with encryption off?

I just removed encryption to test.  The problem remains.

Before trying that I had also adjusted every option (one at a time) within the advanced settings of the adapter on the tablet.  I could not get any range improvement.

Re: Thinkpad Tablet 2 Wifi Issue

I can confirm the problem. I have been running various speed tests for the wifi throughput over the past few hours. When I walk away from the router, the wifi signal drops dramatically, to the point where it loses connection. And I'm talking about a few feet, not some great distance.

What is this now? A $700+ machine, a LENOVO machine, cannot deliver even the BASICS?????? Keep a decent wifi signal, that even a crappy phone can keep in the same distance?

I am extremely frustrated, to the point that I feel deceived. I really really hope it's a driver issue and not a hardware issue, otherwise I'll personally go to the Lenovo headquarters and throw the tablet at someone's face there.

Did anyone return the tablet because of this issue and receive an RMA? Did it solve the issue?

Re: Thinkpad Tablet 2 Wifi Issue

I ordered two tpt2 one for myself and one for a friend. the one I have has a normal wifi just like other devices(ipad, any other smartphones and laptop), but the one my friend has little to no wif signal. 5 feet away from the router then its only 2 bars signal strength and 5kb/s download speed, no matter what kind of wireless router it is on. I tried to uninstall and reinstall the latest driver but that doesn't fix it.

the tpt2 I have has the hdmi performance issue, and sometimes does not awake from sleep and needs a reboot. it seems like all the tpt2 out there are having some glitches and are all different from machine to machine. hopefully those are driver issues and will be fixed ASAP. I am terrified by Lenovo's horrible QC here, as they release a product that's not finished and still no official responses on any of the issues has been addressed.

from shipping to customer service to actual product usability, Lenovo thoroughly disappointed me. I do remember back in 1995 when I got my first computer it was a Legend(Lenovo's former name) and the product is more refined than current products. is this the case with all Lenovo products out there(such as Lenovo yoga, X1 carbon, Helix, thinkpad twist etc.) or just the TPT series?

I received my tablet and have not found any of the problems noticed here. Tested it on the school network, and also my own network.

Also tested HDMI out and it worked fine.

Cannot connect too.

Just got my Tablet 2 from Amazon with W8Pro. I can connect to TKIP wireless networks but I also cannot connect to 2 Cisco WiFi networks at work (one with AES and another with Windows domain security). Deice shows good signal, accepts password, but in the end cannot connect.

Will check at home as well.

I downloaded Broadcom SDIO driver from Lenovo support and reinstalled it; as expected, that did not help.

This is a very bad issue.

To anyone who's RMA'd a unit for this issue, what was the turnaround and did the replacement unit make a substantial improvement?

I'm tempted to open this unit to see if they missed plugging in the antenna.

Everyone's idea of 'good' wireless performance is different, however I could wad up a paper towel and throw it, and hit the router I cannot connect to.

Re: Thinkpad Tablet 2 Wifi Issue

I did call and they said they were sending a new unit out. Told me just keep this one until the new one arrives, set it up to make sure everything works fine and then the old one can be shipped back. They did not even ask for me to turn it on, test anything. Never have I called tech support about a computer and they immediately said, "we'll send a whole new unit!"

So it seems they are aware it is hardware, not so much driver issues. Those would have been fixed by now. They must have had a bad run out of the plant I imagine. As for another post asking about Lenovo quality in general, I have had several other Lenovo Tablet PCs, they were solid and performed great. This is NOT like them which is why everyone is so shocked. If they were known for sketchy hardware I guess we would be reading the posts saying, "well, I took a chance but got bit..."

I am not a Lenovo "YES" man either. When a company screws up, take your lumps. They would be better served just saying, "We do not know what happened during production but there are bad units that came off the line and we are working hard to prevent this and working with our valued customers to remedy the problems they are experiencing as a result."

Either way, I will set up the new unit, then see if I will return the whole lot and maybe go to Dell Latitude 10, or even the Microsoft Surface Pro, although I'm not jazzed about compromising battery life and getting a fan for a little bit of processing power (intel core i5). But I hear they have managed this pretty well in new units(?).

Does how you hold the device make any difference? For example, where you put your hands and the amount of pressure?

When downloading at maximum speed from Steam, if I set my tablet down on a desk (flat on its back), the rate will sometimes drop but I never completely lose connection.
