Re: Thinkpad Tablet 2 Wifi Issue

2013-01-22, 16:18 PM

Same wifi issues for me.

2,4 Ghz mode: Slow performance around 1-5,5 Mbits even directly in front of the access point and very unstable. Using an external usb wlan stick is ~230Mbit. Router is an AVM Fritzbox 7270v2.

5 Ghz mode: Stable at 54Mbit but all my other devices don't support 5Ghz mode.

I just called the help desk to repair / replace the unit.  After I mentioned wifi issues they asked me for no more questions. Within a minute I got the UPS label to send it back.

For me as a Thinkpad Tablet 1 user it sounds very similar to the issue with the power-off button Lenovo had on the TPT1. But repair was done within a few days so hopefully it's the same again. :)

@ausrufezeichen

"Using an external usb wlan stick is ~230Mbit."

Coud you provide what is the brand and model of the usb wlan stick you used? My old wifi usb adapter can't work on tpt2 because of the usb power problem. I am considering buying a new one for tpt2. Due to the usb power problem of tpt2, it is diffcult to find a wifi usb power adapter which is 1) compatible to tpt2 2)stable and fast speed 3) small. Thanks!!

The device connects to WPA2 network (Asus N11) at home. But cannot connect to enterprise Cisco access points at work.

@sblsbl2:

It's the same for me with the usb power problem. I've added the usb stick to an external usb hub to get it working.

Anyways, here's the link: http://www.amazon.de/Hama-Adapter-eingebauten-Antennen-WPA2-Verschl%C3%BCsselung/dp/B0013DUOO0/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1358928591&sr=1-1-catcorr

I have also problems with my wifi. The wifi range is really bad. My old cell phone has a better wifi signal. Its only one floor down and i cant find it. My notebook has about 50% of the wifi and my cell phone about 30%.

Is this normal?

My range on my Tablet 2 is also terrible.  Probably has 50% of the range of my other laptops.  My Google Nexus 7 will have 5 bars in my living room, but the Tablet 2 will only have 2 or 3 bars.  This is not acceptable.

Also, I have to constantly resync the bluetooth keyboard with the Tablet 2, which can be a real pain.

The mini HDMI to VGA also does not work with a monitor or projects.  It just locks up my Tablet.

I am within my 21 day period, so I am returning this Tablet 2 to Lenovo!

Re: Thinkpad Tablet 2 Wifi Issue

At this point I have been able to connect to my home wifi router (Belkin) with no problems.  I was able to also attach to our work network with few problems.  Initially it wouldn't connect when the "connect automatically" box was checked.  After unchecking, I was able to connect.  I will have to troubleshoot this further later today.  I have noticed no difference between my TPT2, Dell laptop, ASUS TF101, and HTC EVO 4G LTE in terms of signal strength.  I purchased a bluetooth keyboard (Perixx Periboard-804) and was able to connect it without any issues also.  I have not yet tried connecting to my tv with the mini HDMI cable yet but will do so tonight.  I don't have a mini HDMI to VGA connector yet but will once I get around to ordering one.

I feel that I should point out that I am NOT experiencing the issues that others are reporting. My TPT2 seems to be behaving normally with regards to Wi-Fi connectivity and sensitivity.

However, I should also add that (1) I do not have a Cisco router on my home network - I use a Fritz!box 7340 supplied by my ISP, and (2) I live in a farmhouse, where our neighbours' Wi-Fi networks are 500 metres distant.

These factors may have a bearing on the fact that I have no complaint.

Re: Thinkpad Tablet 2 Wifi Issue

Hi Folks,

I thought I'd kick in my 2 cents too.

I operate an IT firm that sells Lenovo products. For the record, let me state that I am not a Lenovo employee, nor do I have access to engineers at Lenovo.  I am a Lenovo Business Partner and a Lenovo Authorized Service Center.  I am independant business that has chosen to feature Lenovo products, such as tablets, PCs, desktops, workstations, and servers.  Almost exclusively, we sell only Lenovo, due to Lenovo's outstanding service, and the way they treat their partners.

We too have a ThinkPad Tablet 2 (3679-27U) and have also witnessed the wireless issues.  I opened a service ticket and this is currently (at least publicly, officially) an unknown issue.  They had offered to pick it up for depot repair, but I declined as I do not believe this is a hardware issue, and likely all that would happen would be antenna replacement.  My feeling is this is a driver or firmware issue, for which a depot repair would be a waste of time.

I have alerted my contact at Lenovo, and forwarded my case number.  I don't know anything other than my rep is in the process of running this up the chain.  Usually these things take a day or two before it gets to someone that can provide any word, however, when that information is made available to me, I'll post it here.

So in summary, I'm not an employee, but I have a contact that can make sure this gets to someone who can help and drive and develop a fix.  Don't PM me for additional help, direct phone numbers, etc.  I'm just trying to be a good Ambassador for Lenovo, as they're a company that have always done their best for me and my clients.
