Re: Thinkpad Tablet 2 Wifi Issue

For my case, the problem is observed on multiple wifi networks that do not have a single Cisco device on them.

Although I don't dispute that Cisco may have their own problems, that isn't the problem here.  The wireless NIC on the ThinkPad Tablet 2 is almost for certain the problem.

In my testing, I've tried two routers.  The first was a D-Link DIR-655 (A2), and the second a NetGear WNDR3700 (V2).  They are both Atheros based controllers, but VERY different versions (years apart).

I have also tested with WPA2 with AES with G and N, and even the aging WPA2 with TKIP with G....all post the same results.  No connectivity, or connectivity with bad signal strength and massive packet loss.

Confirming issues identical to those previously listed - have tried different routers - other devices perform normally on routers - will be monitoring forum for info from Lenovo on fix

also confirming the same issue with poor wifi, I have tried connection to a Zyxel, sonicwall and a d-link accesspoint, all with poor results, loosing connection within a few meters of range. I have updated the tablet and verified lastest drivers - my model is 3679-23G

it's sad how a nice tablet turnes up completely wothless, just due to a faulty wifi :-(

People, just call the Tech Support and send in your tablets - or demand a new one (replacement) if you are within the 21 days of original purchase. This is a serious issue and hopefully Lenovo will be alarmed to acknowledge it and fix it asap if they see too many service requests for the same issue.

Lenovo is very aware of the issue now, mrenglishman (maybe not at the teir 1 support, but above, they are looking at this).

I do agree that more service requests better supports the case, but my advice would be to decline sending it in for now...it won't help.

I initially was thinking of the same thing -- besides, I am in the 21-day period in which I can return the TPT2 and demand a new one. But who can guarantee that the new one I receive will not have the same or some other issue? Plus, and new ones will start shipping on 2/18. I figured I'd have a faster turn-around if I send it in for service (they claim 5-6 business days at most for servicing), plus I create a "paper trail" so if the serviced one comes in and has ANY issue I can then just call back and return it for good and get a refund and never deal with TPTs again.

Hi all,

just to give you and update. Our techs did some testing and analysis and found that Some Access Point routers need firmware updates to work with Windows 8 properly. Cisco for example detailed here: https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-27213

Testing was also done using WPA2-PSK/AES connect to Netgear WNDR3700 router. This was from 60 feet away from the router in another room and it seemed to work fine.

as the investigation is stillon going could any of PM me some details of your machine. The details required can be found below.

1)Model/hardware version/firmware

2)version of wireless router/access point/wireless controller being used :

Will require these info to make a comparison.

Regards

Thanks much, NINE. Have they tested a control? Do other devices with Win 8 work on the CISCO network? That is my experience, so the CISCO firmware issue does not provide a complete answer.

My experience has actually been the opposite. My office is a dead zone to everything that isn't hardwired (cellular, wifi are both atrocious or non existent most of the time). Yesterday afternoon I was able to attach to the school that I work for's wifi network. I haven't been able to do that with my cell phone or old tf101 tablet in the 6 months I have been in this office.
