Thinkpad X1 Tablet Keyboard not recognized

2016-10-31, 21:18 PM

A few months back - after a looooong wait - I received a new ThinkPad X1 Tablet (Type 20GG, 20GH) - Type 20GG.

Immediately after installing the Windows 10 Anniversary Update the attached keyboard completely stopped working. I had sent the device in for "repair" and received it back with a working keyboard.

Now the keyboard is dead again. After resume from hibernate it is no longer usable. Detaching and re-attaching it only makes the FnLk and F1 LED blink briefly. That's it. Dead.

I've stried it all, reset the OS, try a pre-anniversay version, latest drivers per wesbite and this forum. No success. A firmware update it not working as no keyboard is detected by the installation process.

Windows 10 does detect the detach, attach. The OS asks whether is should switch to Table Mode or not...

HELP!

I do have a second keynoard of the same kind. Same thing.

Re: Thinkpad X1 Tablet Keyboard not recognized

In response to customer reports of unsatisfactory keyboard behavior on X1 Tablet ThinkPad systems, Lenovo has released several solutions.

In the event the keyboard fails to work or works intermittently, please upgrade the keyboard software: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/sf16-t0038

After upgrading the software, please check to ensure the keyboard mounting posts have not been damaged at the point where the keyboard attaches to the tablet. If the pins appear damaged, please contact Lenovo Service for assistance and reference Service TIP # SF16-T0040. This tip requires the system to be serviced under warranty.

If the keyboard continues to display unexpected behavior after upgrading the software and verifying the mounting posts are undamaged, please contact Lenovo Service for a new keyboard and reference Service TIP # SF16-T0099. Lenovo will provide a free replacement keyboard for systems under warranty.

If the previous steps do not resolve the issue, please contact Lenovo Service and reference Service TIP #SF16-T0099 to have the entire system serviced under warranty.

Thank you,

Have you tried restarting the system? it workded for me - yes, it does go dead after going to sleep for a while or 2 hours of hibernate (not too sure what is the difference) I always resort to a restart and it works like a charm

There is a NEW update for the keyboard on the lenovo drivers section for the x1 tablet - give it a try

Also quick question - is your x1 tablet keyboard peeling in the corners??

Thanks for the response.

Yeah, I've tried it all. It is really bad. And it is happening now the second time. I installed the keyboard driver update but nothing changed. I wonder which keyboard devices show up in Device Manager on other X1 tablets? I see a lot of HID compatible ones, a PS/2 keyboard device and, after installing the before mentioned update, a wireless keyboard filter device.

No peeling off though. But I have only had a chance to use it a couple of days. W/o the attached keyboard it is too embarrassing (and cumbersone) to walk around with a detached or USB keyboard and the tablet.

I tried to use the firmware update solution but it didn't work.  Wouldn't install because no keyboard was detected event though it is connected.

My keyboard problem looks like it had to do with the connector on the tablet — one of the receptors (?), the things that are supposed to line up with the keyboard, was recessed. The other receptors look OK, which might explain why the tablet knows when the keyboard is attached or detached. If I'm right, it's the hardware, not the drivers
