Re: Thinkpad tablet does not detect usb drive via full size usb port

Network drive files are offered through a separate protocol, handled by the CPU of the NAS or the host computer, like Samba, Bonjour, FTP, etc. That way, multiple protocols can be running and offer the files to various devices and operating systems.

I don't use the U3 technology and that's likely why my cruzer works.

Re: Thinkpad tablet does not detect usb drive via full size usb port

i have the small sandisk cruzer 8gb and it works fine with the tablet. i have tried transcend 32GB usb 3.0 thumbdrive, 4gb and 8gb kingston thumbdrives and all work well with the tablet. I even hooked up a generic 100GB external hdd and played anime files from it too.

all the thumbdrives and external hdd were detected the moment i plugged them in, no need to reboot and i unmount them before pulling them  out.

I, for one, would like to know why ntfs has not been implemented on the USB side of things....it is pretty common, and for a company going for the business productivity slant in marketing it seems like it would be pretty unrealistic to expect businesses to format their USB based storage to a particular (and in my opinion out dated) format......would be much easier to just implement.

Maybe there is some sort of license that Lenovo doesn't want to pay for to implementing NTFS.

FAT32 was developed with a group of manufacturers (including IBM), whereas NTFS is solely a MS standard.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NTFS

I know there are other android devices out there that do support NTFS, but perhaps they worked out a deal with MS to get that interoperability into their tablet.

Of course this is all speculation...
