Re: Tpt2 issues thread

Ya for sure.  I'm keeping my eyes on the Surface Pro.  I want it mainly for presentations and the i5.  But I need something that's LTE ready so I'll be waiting a long time.  Originally, TPT2 was supposed to be LTE ready but I haven't seen it as of yet.  But as users keep experiencing these issues, I'm drifting farther and farther away from it.

Since it seems that there are some issues only present in certain TPT2 types, production lots, ... it would help if issues would be posted with details about the TPT2 model, BIOS version, purchase/order date and if applicable a link to the thread on this forum that is dedicated to any particular issue.

Discussions about these issues should take place in the dedicated threads and not in this one here.

Anyone have any issues with the battery reporting around 50% then suddenly going to 6% and saying the battery power is low?  Usually happens while I'm using the device.  I check the battery saying over 50% then a few minutes later while I'm using it a warning comes up saying the battery is low and I should plug it in and reports 6%!

Using a 3679-27U model btw.

I've seen this many times with old batteries. It's a sign that one or more cells in the battery pack has failed. On a product that's new it may mean that the battery is defective. I'd call Lenovo for further assistance.

Well that would suck.

Just out of curiosity, how long does the TPT2 take to charge using the standard 2amp wall plug?  Also would there be any sort of diagnostic or setting that would tell me if my battery is working as it should be?

Can't say yet. I just got my TPT2. It seems to take a few hours to get from 50% to 100% but I really haven't timed it.

Go to the Lenovo Settings app in Win8, then select Power. What does Battery Health say? Mine shows Condition: Good.

In the Lenovo settings it says 78% charging on AC power, time to fully charge 1 hour 2 mins, and battery health is Good.

I also downloaded Battery Bar and it lists my battery as having 30,850mWh and a battery wear of 0%.  Although I'm not sure if this is actually accurate or if it just pulls the info from the settings somewhere.

I'll let it fully charge overnight and then do a rundown test to check again.  I've had this happen on my phones before and it was the battery calibration needing to be reset.  Hope it's a similar issue here.

Edit: Uh oh, it charged to 100% in only 30 mins despite the Lenovo settings saying it would take 1 hour.  I read on some other forums that it normally takes 5 hours to charge it to full from 0 which means 1 hour per 20% or so which is in line with the Lenovo settings estimate.  Will leave it charging for a while and then try a rundown test... I really hope one of the cells isn't dead...

Dinan,

Can you check whether your battery is set for max run time or max lifespan under Windows settings?
