Volume Buttons

2012-05-11, 8:05 AM

I know many users have had problems with their volume buttons, but I'm not sure what exactly the problem is. Today, both my volume buttons got pressed in and no longer work. It this the same problem and is it covered by warranty?

Alright thank you.

One more question though. Does repairing it involve replacing the whole system board? Because I would rather not lose everything again..

The problem with the volume buttons (VB) is the same as with the power button (PB). I'm assuming you're familiar with the PB problem since several posts already exist on the subject. The only reason why there are less VB issues is because they are typically used less frequently than the PB. All three buttons are on the same front camera board and one particular revision of this board is more prone to problems than the other (or others).

No! Only the front camera board needs to be replaced depending on the severity of the issue.

jiv - at times they have replaced the whole motherboard but not always. Depends on where repaired. Hopefully you won't lose everything. How's your micro usb? Still firm and charging?

Micro USB and power button are still fine. I've sent the TPT in for faulty microUSB before, took 3 weeks for Lenovo to replace the right system board, so I'm hoping they don't have to do it again.

I was hoping that it needed replacement so you could do both together. Sorry to hear it already has to go back. At least then everything should be fixed.

sh*t How long is the warranty? I already had the pwr button issue. Now I fear for my micro usb and volume buttons. Should I break them on purpose to get them replaced by more durable parts before I lose warranty?! They should make an official call-back and admit they built crap just to save 1$ each for proper soldering. Luckily it doesn't spontaneously burst into flames.
