Re: X1 Tablet 3rd Gen - Screen scratching

2019-01-18, 9:58 AM

Got the same issue on my brand new X1 after a month and a half as well.

Reading this thread - this is outrageous. I can't believe this is happening. I've been using Surfaces for many years, and this has never happened...

I'm having the same exact issue... The service depot also said it was CID and billed me for ~$800 to replace the screen even though I've only had the device for less than 2 months (Black Friday weekend). I assured the reps that this was unacceptable, since I had kept the device protected from drops or any objects near the screen OTHER than the stylus and the keyboard. The rep said the keyboard most likely caused the damage... To which I replied that LENOVO made the keyboard... That's not our fault that the company manufactured an accessory that ruins the screen. The service rep agreed to cover the repair even though it's not a warranty fix. I'm pretty upset knowing that the screen is probably going to deteriorate again in a few short months... Ugh. It would be one thing if the device were cheap, but this to me is a flagship device!

EDIT: My case number is 407LCM8.

All.

Can I suggest we share as much as possible but also each person incldued there case number on this forum so we can build up a record of the identical issues. My case number is #31402788.

If we can record as much factual information on here as possible, case numbers also then each person can also use this information when lodging complaints with their local "consumer watchdog"/"consumer complaints office".

Regards,

Brett

Re: X1 Tablet 3rd Gen - Screen scratching

Today I give you guys some new informations. They have repaired my X1. The following panel is now in: LP130QP1-SPA1 ... someone had problems with it?

How did it get repaired? I had submitted the case to the complaint management. For about 2 weeks, no answer came until I called. They promised to handle the case asap. The next day I got an email. 5 lines. It's a third party fault and they will not fix it. After that, I had a conversation with the worker who said to me that anyone on the internet can write anything and they are "single cases" and therefore they will not fix them. I was so angry that I could not answer him. After the call, however, I wrote them an e-mail where I said that I would complain about Lenovo to the consumer protection in Germany (which I did) and that they should tell me EXACTLY how the technician comes to his statements. I want an explanation.

One day later, the answer came that, out of goodwill, they repair it ONCE. Insane....

Simply unacceptable, how Lenovo deal with customers here. Have more than 1 month "fought" with them.

Hope the problem wont come back

Wow, with that protector case that makes the full weight more than my 15.6" X1 Extreme. Kind of defeats the purpose.

Re: X1 Tablet 3rd Gen - Screen scratching

Discovered and read through this entire thread's twelve pages yesterday in the course of my research on these machines. Can anyone provide a make/model # on panel or definite manufacture go-forward date where it's known the screens on the machines DON'T have a problem yet?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

P.S. - Anyone aware of a really thin, light 65W USB-C travel adapter for this unit?

As my unit is still in the service depot after 7 business days of back-and-forth, I’m not sure about the model or manufacturer of the display itself.  However, regarding a 65w travel charger, Amazon sells some by Anker and Aukey that seem to do well. This is the one I’m eyeing that tech YouTubers use...

The 60w brick would still charge it perfectly... In fact, with type-c you can actually use a 45w charger for travel unless you are constantly pushing the limit on your chipset.

Barring anyone knowing a better discount, coupon than the current B&N Gold one I think what I'm going to do is leave the standard 1-yr depot warranty, but add the accidental damage for $34.30 and if the screen has heartburn I'll send it in for replacement as this will be my secondary machine for road travel.

EDIT: There's tons on Lenovo outlet - probably all having had their LCDs replaced/upgraded <g> - now we're having some fun. ;)

Good news:

My screen was replaced in early December with this part: LP130QP1-SPA1 and I think it resolved the issue.  I have been travelling and using the pen regularly and so far there is no signs of scratches or scuffing.

From my recollection, the initial scuffs appeared a few weeks after receiving it brand new.
