Re: X1 Tablet 3rd Gen - Screen scratching

2019-01-27, 2:01 AM

my previous travel machine is a 4lb machine which is overall better than the X1, but it's going to be hard to go back to that exclusively. For travel I'll have to baby the X1 and put a piece of cloth between the keyboard and screen. Got a protective cloth with a vaio a couple of years back, the only laptop I've had that came with such a thing.

All this is because I wanted a 13" tablet to take with me on trips in addition to my laptop. Problem is I guess no one else wants 13" tablets, and so we end up getting treated like garbage in this niche market. HP did also just come out with a 13" tablet but for the same price you get only a smaller sata drive and less memory, worse processor, etc. I should have just paid more to match the specs and get the HP.

You're not the only one who wants a 13 inch tablet.  I don't know why Microsoft settled on 12 inches as standard for these type of machiens. Even they produce the Surface Book 13 and 15.  Beside the HP elite x2, there's the Acer Switch 7.  Even Chuwi had a 13.5" screen tablet.  Poor processor though.

yeah the chuwi seems like a dog, though for the price is could be interesting. Problem is there's no where to buy it. The Acer, I didn't know about, but I've been weary of their other 10 and 12" tablets for some reason. I guess I will stop there so as not to risk going further OT.

Dear all,

Great dialogue about alternatives to the X1T3, but I would rather ensure that we remain on-topic wrt the screen scuffing and coating issues. I am trying to have this discussion gain momentum within Lenovo, and really would like this thread to help consolidating the issue, provide photographic evidence andsoforth ,,,,

Agreed. we need to stay on topic to get a permanent fix to this issue (not a difficult thing to achieve, my Ipad get's a huge amount of abuse and the screen is flawless).

For me Lenovo have just agreed in writing to provide a "comlimentary repair", read "Lenovo doesnt accept any blame".

I am waiting for them to respond on how they propose to repair and what has actually changed to ensure this doesnt happen again. Waiting for some assurance.

Will keep you guys updated of progress.

Re: X1 Tablet 3rd Gen - Screen scratching

Hi all,

I have the same problem with the screen.

I ordered the tablet in December and I got it 2 weeks ago. I used it for just 3 days and the screen is already scratched from the keyboard!!!

The tablet is in service right now and I wait to receive a response from them in the following days.

I will come back with the update.

Ok it's time for a recall. Just pull them all back in and do it right.

Link to the video? (in regards to the unbox therapy youtube reviewer comment campaign) it's probably worthwhile to raise the issue with someone who has an audience - although I'm not sure that's what his platform was exactly intended for and the warranty/recall/factory support should suffice so that's going to be my approach to this... I'm still trying to figure out how to initiate a warranty claim with Lenovo on my screen.. Kept running me in a digital circle on "https://www.managedtechnicalsupportaccess.com/mtsarva/lenovo.html" (finally got past the error code for registration, and now have Service Case # 407PH9F to share) . Hopefully someone from Lenovo will stumble across this thread and reach out. That would be nice to get this resolved. I miss my X201T. And none of my other screens after considerable use have had this happen, with this severity in such a short time, with 14 pages of others experiencing similar discrepancies.

Welcome to the era of disposable tech in the age of forced obsolescence.  As consumers, it's important to vote with your dollar. This is a far cry from the quality the ThinkPad series was known for. This was supposed to be my exit from Apple/Mac products... guess it's time to refurbish an X220 Tablet and run it well beyond EOS.

Alerted my company IT. THey'll contact Lenovo. We're a 110,000-employee company, and a huge Lenovo customer, so I hope we can have some weight. Will post any positive statement, if any.

Re: X1 Tablet 3rd Gen - Screen scratching

I finally got my X1T3 back from the service depot yesterday after about 9 days of back-and-forth (and the closest depot is actually in my city -- less than 20 minutes from my house ha). The screen looks amazing now, as it should; however, every time I spoke with a representative, they had "no idea of ANY recurring problem with these devices from the Lenovo corporate office." Lenovo has NOT put out any type of warning to their service depots concerning this design flaw, which leaves me a bit hopeless that the screen replacement is most likely the EXACT same screen that was on it before... Not sure what to do. I even asked for a replacement device (Yoga C930 -- because of the 2-in-1 functions that I use regularly), but the reps told me they could not interchange IdeaPad products with ThinkPad products (are both from Lenovo? -- lol). I still have 296 days left on my warranty, so I guess I'll just wait and see if a solution comes up before warranty goes out. I've made Lenovo aware of this thread on Twitter through Direct Message (and they actually responded). Hopefully, they are looking at it...
