Ugh, what a pain in the *butt. Seriously. Thanks for the heads up TeKnical. Did you end up going with a screen protector on yours?

Re: X1 Tablet 3rd Gen - Screen scratching

I posted a comment in Dec 2018 (Message #68 on page 7 of this thread), quoting a sales agent assuring me that the screen scratching issue had been resolved with updated glass coating. Sadly, this was a lie as my screen is now showing wear. My scratch appears in line with the middle trackpad button (bottom left corner to be exact.

Apologies for anyone relying on my post. Clearly, this remains an ongoing issue.

As well, I would not recommend the i7 cpu. Stick with the i5, as the processor does not appear to manage the extra heat. Per notebookcheck.net, i5 models tested 25% FASTER than i7 models. I can attest that my i7 does lag more than I was expecting.

Funny part is the heat issue could be fixed if we could actually install Intel's Xtreme tuning tool... But we can't even install that: unsupported processor! :smileyvery-happy:

Yeah! I can attest to the heat for the 8550u. I had to use ThrottleStop to undervolt and underclock to keep from thermal throttling all the time. It was running 75-85°C consistently which is not safe at all... Also, I was only getting a mere 3 hours of battery life. However, once undervolting (-99.6mv) and underclocking (to 3.5Ghz instead of 4

.0Ghz) the heat is now around 60°C under high loads (idles around 40°C) and the battery life is around 6 hours under normal loads (browsing, YouTube, etc) at 60% brightness.

I actually thought the spots were caused by the heat got when I first sent it in. In fact, I told the service rep they were "heat spots." This was because the screen got really hot where the spots were showing up (like burn the finger hot). But, then I saw all the issues with the keyboard on this forum.. I am wondering if the heat doesn't help soften/weaken that coating some. I would be bold enough to say that if a Mac or Dell had a trackpad button, it wouldn't scuff simply because of how solid their modern display technology is. Maybe the heat softens the coating to the point where it doesn't take much to wear the display down. Just a thought.

Hi all,

I've noticed lag too on my i7. Per someone else's comment about keeping this thread on topic (screen scratching issue)... I found a relevant reddit post where a user had success with tweaking the processor settings and put it on this forum thread:

Hi all,

After changing my x1 tablet's screen, I mounted the brotect airglass foil. The foil durability is 9H(very good quality) . After about 3 weeks of use, the foi it was scratched in the same place like first screen, so I think the problem is with the keypad and not the screen quality.

The keyboard is to hard for this tablet.

Hello again,

I would have to agree with everyone about the keyboard being the issue. Last night I lined up the keyboard to see if any of the buttons lined up with the scuffs... Sure as gods got sandals the center track pad buttons four corners line up exactly where the center scuffs that are on my screen, and the the outer scuffs line up to the outer edges of the right and left click buttons. To further push the point the buttons themselves are also scuffed from making contact to the screen. Keep in mind this is the "updated keyboard". Knowing this is going to make my phone conversation very entertaining, wish me luck.

The Keyboard is not the root cause. The Keyboard is exacerbating the problem, which is poor quality/faulty screen coating. On the Surface pro, my Ipad Pro and older Toshiba Ultrabook Laptop all of them have the keyboard in constant contact with the screen when closed and you can see this when the screen is dirty. But never, never have they scratched the screen like what is happening with the Lenovo XI Tablet.

Just talked to the Depot. They're charging me and there's nothing I can do about it.
