X1 Tablet G2 - MAC Address passthrough

2018-05-23, 7:04 AM

Good Morning,

I am currently working for a big company and we are testing the deployment of Windows to several systems.

Unfortunately, I cannot see a functionality for MAC Passthrough in the bios settings. I also updated the bios to the latest available version.

Is the X1 Tablet (Gen 2) capable of MAC passthrough and which docking station is support this out of the box for Win PE with drivers in the PE image.

Additional, is there a mac passthrough option for the new generation 3 version and will it work with the tbt 3 dock (that is not supported by gen 2)?

Kind regards,

Christian

There is a MAC passthrough option in our ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen2 (20JF000DUS) firmware.  Whether it works with Docking Station only or the direct Ethernet adapter or the USB-C adapter, i am not sure.  Attached is a screenshot of the UEFI BIOS level setup Config -->  Network --> "MAC Address Pass Through"  Screen.

Thanks for the reply, but I am talking about the X1 Tablet, not the Yoga.

Sorry, i messed up on the names.  No MAC pass through on the previous ThinkPad X1 Yoga 1st Generation such as the 20FQ0055US.  Very frustrating when it comes to setting static DHCP reservations when it all depends on the USB adapter the end user plugs in.  Without the ability to pass the MAC address through to the USB device, this is a nightmare.

How is it possible not to have MAC passthrough on an enterprise grade product that has an unreachable built-in NIC?  I am referring to the virtual intel NIC embedded in the machine but which does not have an ethernet port.  I have to wonder if the BIOS developers inadvertently  dropped MAC passthrough in some versions.
