Re: X1 Tablet & Prod Module Battery Failover not Working

2016-07-12, 16:27 PM

I have the same issue, makes the module completely useless in my opinion as i can not trust to keep it connected to tablet.

Have a case with Lenovo so will see what they have to say, but the thread is not filling me with hope, lol.

Pls keep us posted on what happens with your case. Mine never went anywhere :( I also checked the site now and the Tablet is not even available. I wonder if this is due to issues such as this one.

I really want to re-purchase it but I will hold off and see how these issues play out.

No fix found yet, so back goes the X1. Shame as it wasn't too bad a unit bar this issue

What did tech support tell you?

Tech support said the motherboard needed to be changed, i had on site warranty so they sent out a repair guy with the part. He came and without opening the unit called back up tech support and told them that really the device should be doa instead of repair.

So in terms if that would of fixed the problem i can't comment but with the doa issued i've choose to get off this "marry go round" ride.

Re: X1 Tablet & Prod Module Battery Failover not Working

Man, I am sorry to hear that

However I am happy to confirm to many new owners that I have tested the module and it works perfectly. It will get to 5% charge as Battery #2, and then it will switch over to Battery #1 where it will keep draining it. I have tested this 4 out 5. I just got the tablet 5 days ago. In one of the test I was notified that it shut off COLD at 20% but it proceed to 5% where it then kicked by the main battery.

Conclusions as per my testings:

No need to switch the battery, to start the tablet if depleted - it will stay depleted at 5% where it then will switch to main battery

It only shut off hard and cold all the way at 20% ONCE which kinda sucked if I was doing work, but I was pleased to see that it worked as soon as it was turned back on with no problems and its where I noticed the 5% switchover. I didn't mind the result.

I have the model 20GGCTO1WW with 8 gigs and m5 processor (which seems the popular configuration)- I cannot speak to the rest as I was told different configurations will drain the battery at different rates (the higher the processor, the faster the rain rate logic I guess) I also noticed my sticker where my S/N and Model # stated 8/16 -

I also noticed on the support page for the Thinkpad X1 tablet that there many new updated driver for the bios including the productivity module and projector module that are pretty current as of this month, you guys can give it a try http://support.lenovo.com//us/en/products/Tablets/ThinkPad-Tablet-Series/ThinkPad-X1-Tablet?beta=false

Re: X1 Tablet & Prod Module Battery Failover not Working

I am the original creator of this thread and I wanted to give a follow-up (and hopefully closure) to this thread.

On 8/24/2016, Lenovo released a BIOS update v.1.55 which fixes this issue.  Per the release notes:

[Problem fixes]
- Fixed an issue where system may shutdown/reboot when remaining capacity in the
  second battery is very low.

I have been on a long road working/testing with upper-level support on this intermittent problem over the last couple months, but did not want to post any of our findings here until they officially released the fix.  I'll spare most of the details, but in short, I am happy to report that this BIOS indeed resolves the issue.

0 person found this solution to be helpful.

This helped me too

It didn't solve it. My Tablet keeps shutting down when main battery is drained and the problem is that each time diffrent battery starts to drain first.

Despite what I posted in my last post on 8/25/2016, I agree with AbouLyess in that this problem was never completely solved.  Fortunately we only purchased a couple of these units to pilot before rolling them out to the office, but they proved to be far too unreliable and we opted for Yoga 260 instead.

Has or will Lenovo involve themselves in this? I've been experiencing the same issue here and it appears to have started after I took a BIOS update. I'm now wishing I hadn't. If I detach the productivity module my X1 Gen 2 works great... except that I can't attach my keyboard and touchpad. It'd be great if Lenovo would get this fixed for us. I do still have an active warranty, but it doesn't sound like that'll fix anything since it is BIOS related.
