Yoga C940-15IRH laptop(ideapad)

2021-03-31, 13:00 PM

My laptop screen will not turn on and the caps lock light is on when I open the laptop. When I try to power up the laptop the keyboard flashes then goes back to only the caps lock light on.

Welcome to the Community Forums @ Fedn!

Thanks for posting here!

Just to ask:

  • When did this started to happen? Does this happened after downloading/installing an update?

Try to press the Caps Lock key and see if it will respond while the screen is black/blank.

Also, try pressing the Novo button hole that's underneath the laptop to see if it will work, please see attached picture below.

Make sure that the Yoga C940 is completely OFF before pressing the Novo button hole.

Another step to try here is to connect the Yoga C940 to an external display/monitor.

Update us how it goes.

Thanks,

This issue started last night. Pressing the caps lock button does nothing. Also when pressing the nova button I’m not sure if my computer is completely off since the caps lock light remains on always. But pushing the nova button did nothing also.

Thanks for the update @ Fedn!

If the Caps Lock key isn't responding when pressed while the screen is black, you may try pressing the Novo button again to perform a factory reset as long as it's completely turned OFF.

You may press and hold the Power button for like 7 to 10 seconds until the machine is completely OFF and doesn't show any lights.

Please note that performing a factory reset will erase all data that's stored in the device.

Thanks,

I have held the power button for 2 minutes and the caps lock continues to stay on.

Just type C940 dead in Google.

Seems it's a common issue (so I'm surprised these "mods" know nothing about it) but I think you need to drain the battery completely or something like that to get the machine going again.

Doing the battery drain design seem to be fixing the problem. I’m going to take it to a tech shop see what they say.

May 2021

Happened to me too.  Extremely frustrating - my warranty expired 2 weeks ago.  Lenovo's tech support is terrible - likely not buying one of these again (tho I did love this computer before this...)

WORKED FOR ME --> Unplug computer and drain the battery completely.  Easy way to speed up this process is to plug in your iphone to charge or whatever USB devices you have that will drain the laptop battery.

Takes about an hour if you've got all USB ports charging from the battery.  I would let it drain even past the point of "off" to ensure there are no capacitors etc that have a residual charge (maybe 30 mins past when the CAPS LOCK ZOMBIE LIGHT OF DEATH goes out)...

Take out your crossbow and send a single arrow to the middle of the screen between the eyes (BODY SHOTS DONT KILL ZOMBIES, FYI).

Then plug in computer for 10-20 mins to get a decent charge on the battery.

Turn it on and it should boot normally.

Only happened to me once. I've read that it's caused (and FWIW this is what I did to cause it myself) by trying to power down computer without proper shut down (ie, just holding the power button until it shuts off).

Good luck --> OH BY THE WAY - bc you have a Lenovo Yoga, beware that one day (100% going to happen) you're going to return to your laptop while it was supposed to be in SLEEP mode.  It will be 180 f-ing degrees (I sh!t you not), you will likely burn your hand, and the computer is in panic oh-fck safety mode so it wont turn on.

Get it to a strong fan or fridge (dont leave it there long) and cool it completely.  It should turn on when its a "normal" temperature.

Google Windows 10 issue w "Modern Standby" (aka S0) and do the registry fix to disable it (which changes it back to the sleep mode we've known for years (aka S3)).  Be sure to use Google to search for this issue rather than Bing --> be sure to give MSFT a good solid F-U...

Cant wait for the next "adventure" with this POS...
