Re: Winxp 64bit with ThinkPad W520

By far the easiest solution is to run Windows XP in a virtual machine, with either windows 7 or linux as the host O/S. Windows 7 pro or above has a free Windows XP virtual machine, right?

The virtualized XP will run slower than running natively, but it will still be far faster than a machine from the era that Windows XP was designed for.

Re: Winxp 64bit with ThinkPad W520

That's what I meant by Server 2003. It will recognize up to 128GB of RAM.

A virtualized Windows XP system should run near native speed due to VT-x and related virtualization technologies, assuming the VM program supports it.

That isn't a problem for the millions of people that have switched to a 64 bit verson of Windows 7.

Hey I'm tempted to put Windows 2000 on this W520 for nostalgia and because I like it's style. Smiley Tongue
