Hi everyone, the last post in this thread was from 2016 - now it is 2017 and I was wondering if there are any news regarding Lenovo supporting 16GB memory for the x240.
I tried and it didn't work (a week ago) but I was wondering if there is some trick that is now known that does make it work.

I posted this somewhere else but the answer is simply "NO". The limitation is that Intel CPUs and chipsets for 4th generation and earlier machines cannot access 16 GB DIMMs. X250 - yes. X240 - no. It is an Intel limitation, regardless of the machine maker.

Are you guys sure that the 4th generation Core i CPUs don't support 16GB RAM? Because the 3RD generation Core i5 in my old Thinkpad x230 did! Would be kinda weird if the x230/Ivy Bridge did support it and the NEXT generation (x240/Haswell) didn't.... ?

Your X230 (and other ThinkPads from the same gen) support 2x 8GB, the X240 has a single RAM slot so you're stuck to 8GB max.
The correct sentence would be that 4th gen Core-i CPU's don't accept single 16GB RAM module
