Just purchased the x1 carbon, upgraded to windwos 10 and I cannot install the Lenovo Fingerprint reader software! I only see 8.1 avaiable. No option for Windows 10?
Nevermind! Found a fix.

In response to customer reports of the fingerprint reader not working as expected on X1 Carbon laptops (Type 20A7, 20A8, 20BS, and 20BT), Lenovo has released an updated driver.
(Fix) Fix for Driver does not work when upgraded from Windows Update to OS Win10 TH2.
Validity Fingerprint Common Driver v.4.5.505 can be downloaded here: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/DS103635

I have had my X1 for about 18 months now and have recently (about 2 weeks ago) upgraded to Win 10. Under Win 8/8.1 the fingerprint services was intermittent, usually failing after coming out of sleep or after attaching the ProDock.
I followed the instructions on the Lenovo site to do the Win 10 upgrade. I upgraded BIOS, deleted the Fingerprint manager software, and after doing the upgrade to Win10 I went into Device Manager and checked for the latest Synaptics fingerprint driver from Lenovo.
During the first week the fingerprint reader was intermittent as it had been in the past, but it is now completely inoperative. When I go into Device Manager windows does not list any biometric devices. I did notice that under USB Serial Bus Controllers there is an "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed" (See attached screen shot.)
If I delete the failed USB device and reboot my computer the fingerprint scanner works on the first startup and the Biometric service appears until my machine goes to sleep or restarts again and it forgets the fingerprint service.
I hope this helps and that you can suggest a permanent fix.

You mentioned you looked at the Synaptics driver, but for the X1 Carbon types 20A7, 20A8, 20BS, and 20BT the fingerprint driver is provided by Validity. A new update for Validity fingerprint driver, version 4.5.07, was released on June 20th. It includes additional fixes.
It can be downloaded here: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/ThinkPad-X-Series-laptops/ThinkPad-X1-...

I have an X1 Carbon type 20A7. I recently got my laptop fixed and decided to upgrade to Windows 10 just yesterday since the free upgrade is not longer going to be available. After doing so, the fingerprint scanner no longer worked, as seems to be a common issue. I have tried multiple times to download the driver from the link you've provided, and it doesn't actually appear to have any affect. It doesn't make any drivers show up (yes, I have checked ALL of the folders, and there still isn't anything resembling what the README file says should show up) Also, restarting my computer results in two of the "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)" drivers in the device manager (and I honestly have no idea why there are two of them.) Honestly, I'm not that great with computers, so I don't expect things to always be easy for me to figure out, but this is getting ridiculous. (And sorry if this sounds cranky, but I've been trying to figure this out for two hours now... I should probably take a break.)

...and randomly today it suddenly works, and the driver is present. It's been over a week since I last tried to install the driver and I haven't restarted or even turned off my computer since (I'm one of those people.) So, I guess I don't need help anymore, but if someone wants to tell me why that happened you would be my favorite...

I have a X1 carbon 3444 with Windows 10. Fingerprint reader (FPR) was working fine. Sensor is a TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor by AuthenTec. The latest Windows 10 update around Christmas resulted in the FPR dissappearing despite device manager showing as working. Tried rolling back driver from 184.108.40.2062 to 220.127.116.111 with no help. Tried uninstalling the Lenovo FPR software to see if Windows Hello would see it - but no. Reinstalled Lenovo FPR software g1f914ww_64.exe still no result showing
Checked Bios and FPR is enabled.
Contacted Microsoft who after checking my system and not being able to solve it advised to reinstall windows 10, which I did, and although being reassured this would fix it - has not.
Anyone with any ideas?
