Re: 2015 X1 Carbon slow & choppy web browsing

2015-03-16, 2:08 AM

i ended up reaching out to intel and surprisingly since i performed the steps they asked me to, i havent had any issues

but basically just download the driver it is the file with the "De" in it.

then go to device manager and uninstall the wireless adapter and choose to delete the existing driver.

then just install the driver that is downloaded.

i didnt have to remove my existing intel proset which i am using the latest lenovo release and not intel release

here are their instructions:

Our best advice on this type of scenarios would be erasing all of the current wireless drivers and software installed on your computer and re-install them one more time. So, first download the latest wireless software/drivers available for your wireless adapter then uninstalling the wireless software currently installed on your computer in device manager, and then installing the latest ones you downloaded before.

- Download Latest Drivers
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/24656/Intel-PROSet-Wireless-Software-for-Windows-8-1-

-Uninstall the device from the device manager, select the delete driver software option.
- Reinstall the drivers using the latest drivers downloaded above.
- Select Custom install and select the first two options.
- Please let me know the status of the issue after these steps have been completed.

@johntchow - Thanks so much for the suggestion and detailed instructions.

Tried your update WiFi driver suggestion and the X1 won't let me.  I unintalled and deleted the old drivers after I dowloaded 17.14.0 and when I installed the new drivers it reverted back to the old one somehow - 17.13.11.5.  Tried it multiple times but it keeps saying "Windows has determined your driver is up to date" when I try to override the version it's trying to install.

Not sure how you got it to update, but it won't work for me.  Also tried the Intel Driver Update Utility and after downloading the latest versions, the install fails when I try to update them.  Something is blocking the WiFi driver update.

YES, Aduzik.  I was having the same problem with internet browsing -- slow and choppy.  So I came to this forum looking for solutions.  I saw your suggestion and checked my power setting.  It was the same as yours.  Once I switched to "Balanced" setting, BAM..now my internet browsing is blazing fast.  Thanks so much for posting!

kbb-texas - I would say it's definitely better than before but still nowhere near as smooth and lag free as my Macbook. At this point, hoping Windows 10 does the trick.

Re: 2015 X1 Carbon slow & choppy web browsing

Hello guys, sorry for waking up an old post but I'm pretty frustrated with my new x1 carbon (gen3). Problem is that I'm getting really slow wifi connection. I've tried with other laptops I've got at home and they're reaching way higher speeds than my x1.
Things I've tried:

  • Updating intel AC 7265 to latest drivers (didn't help)
  • Followed some guides and double checked my router settings (seems to be just fine)
  • Tried different settings on the AC 7265 through device manager (didn't help)
  • Double checked Windows wireless network configuration
  • Searched on google "AC 7265 slow connection" (didn't really find a decent solution)

I'm using a Inteno DG 150 router and as I previously said, my other laptops got faster wifi connection (30Mb/s vs ~0.8Mb/s on the x1).

How does your settings look like under device manager on the AC 7265? Or what did you guys do in order to solve this issue, if anyone experienced it?

Sorry I can't really be of help - mine is fine now. I don't remember what the problem was back in June. But we did end up getting AT&T Uverse then (in June) with faster internet. I also recently disabled the 2.4GHz band on my router to force everything to use the 5 band. Our internet only goes up to 18 Mbps anyway. Just ran a test at speedtest.net and got 23 Mbps download speed so I guess we're doing good. But it looks like disabling the 2.4GHz band didn't speed anything up.

Make sure you have all the newest software from Lenovo - I've learned that you cannot rely on a notification in the system tray. Pull up Lenovo Solution Center and force it to check for updates even if it says you have the latest software (it lies all the time) - in LSC, go to System, then Updates. Most likely to download updates, you'll even have to download a new version of the system updater software (even if it says it is the newest - it has no idea).

They did recently send out a BIOS update so make sure you have that. I downloaded it 10/17 (version 1.10.1.06). It looks like I downloaded a new version of the Intel WLAN Driver that day as well (version 17.16.1). Oh, and also the Intel Wireless LAN Driver (version 18.20.0.9). Before that, I downloaded a BIOS update on 9/11 (version 1.09.1.04). So I guess it wouldn't hurt to check those things. I just looked and the most recent BIOS update was available 8/13 so I probably didn't get a notice to update, but forced it to check for updates on 10/17.

FYI, I have 8.1 Pro, 8GB RAM, 500 GB SSD, i5 5300U chip (2.3 GHz).

The problem I'm having now is my left mouse button (not the pad, but the button with the trackpoint) isn't working really great so I have to usually hit it twice - very frustrating. Haven't looked into the possible issue yet.

Did you disable the option for it to turn off the wireless to save power? You definitely need to do that. See below:

Here's some more from Device manager:

Here's what was done 10/17:

If you want me to check other settings, I would be happy to - just reply here - it will email me with any updates.

Frustrating indeed! X1 carbon (top specs) is my first windows device and several times a day i think why don't I simply return it back and go get Mac again...
