Re: 2019 X1 Yoga 4th Gen discussion thread

Hi guys,

Some questions to which I would greatly appreciate your thoughts and expert advice;

1. It seems the X1Y4 doesn't come with matte screen options (please correct me if I'm wrong..). Which screen is "closest" to matte and would you recommend for someone who really prefers matte over glossy screens? (Or are they basically all the same?)

2. Regarding "PrivacyGuard" (which isn't available yet but will supposedly come in August); If for a screen with PrivacyGuard-functionality PrivacyGuard is not active, is the screen quality then in any way worse than a similar screen without PrivacyGuard-functionality? (I guess in other words: are there any downsides to PrivacyGuard functionality that one should consider?

3. If cost is not a point of big concern, but battery life and not having a hot device on your lap is at least as important as have a fast device, which processor would you recommend? (The i5-8265U (1.60GHz up to 3.90GHz); the i7-8565U (1.80GHz up to 4.60GHz); the i5-8365U (1.60GHz up to 4.10GHz); or the i7-8665U (1.90GHz up to 4.80GHz)?) Do the faster always processors run hotter?

Looking forward to your thought (and own choices :-)

I will respond to 3. The faster processors will run hotter and use more battery than the slower ones. Will that be offset by getting things done faster, unless you are editing videos probably not. If you are running office and web stuff I would recommend the i5-8265.

Good question...official tech specs (https://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/Think%20Tablets%20_%20Convertibles/ThinkPad%20X1%20Yoga%20(...) actually show the bottom as a magnesium [alloy].  I'm assuming they went with an aluminum [alloy] display housing for stiffness because of the convertible aspect but kept the Mg base to lightweight.

Bottom is not all metal.

It is magnesium alloy, but lower part is plastic, which works for WWAN antenna window.

This is the same for all X1 Yoga models, for example, X1Y3 lower part is plastic for NFC antenna (see photo)

An update from my end...

I received the laptop yesterday i.e. close to six weeks after placing the order. The machine is NICE but the wait was LONG.

Re: 2019 X1 Yoga 4th Gen discussion thread

I just got my X1Y4, bad news for you all:

X1Y4 wifi card (intel 9560) is welded, there's no way to upgrade it to a wifi6 card.

It is an intel 9560D2W card

From X1Y1 to X1Y3, their mother boards are almost identical, but X1Y4 is a new design, everything is different.
